Michigan Tech

Post by unfalconbelievable »

Wonder what team will show up this weekend. No one brought it up all week so I will. This quote was in the paper after last weekend series by one of our Seniors.

"It's hard to bring the same energy every night" Barber said. "It's something that we need to get better at. I can't think back this year whee we've strung two really, really good games together"

I know teams and former players where this quote would of had you playing club hockey by Monday. If not punched in the face by more than one player. When a senior says this, give me the excuses, we're young, refs, transfer portal, etc, No excuse to be able to get yourself up to compete. Zero. College hockey is built on weekend play and back to back nights. Either we are recruiting the wrong guys or there is a serious culture problem within the program.

Down 1 - 0
- Maybe tomorrow night is Barbers night he has chosen to play.

Meh.....team is about what I thought they would be after losing 10+ guys.

If they can finish above 500 and win a first round playoff series....I think that is a success this year.

Especially with Rose going down for extended time a second year in a row.
They have 3 true freshman goaltenders, not normally a recipe for success........and I know all about Kruzich, none of these kids are Kruzer.

4 - 0 Tech Final

Maybe Barber and crew will show up tomorrow since we know they can only show up 1 night a weekend. Hopefully that night is tomorrow

I’m a little surprised at the acceptance of some that the program is slipping back into irrelevance.

Given the amount of players who left over the spring and summer, a pretty big step back this year was expected. The program doesn't recruit top end talent so it's on guys to develop in juniors and have a good staff in place to push that progression.

I'm not necessarily going to panic yet but if next year yields similar results I think the viability of the coaching staff needs to be closely examined.

If you forget the first period, the second and third would be a decent hockey game. Unfortunately, it's not pick your best 2 out of 3 periods.

I’m here as well. One year is pretty expected, given how much was lost. If there isn’t improvement next year, we’ll be sounding the alarms. But I don’t think we can panic just yet.

I’d be more worried. Team doesn’t compete very well against good teams. This is how it happened after Jerry left.

Barber and Malmstrom are scratched tonight. Swankler shifted down to being the extra skater. And essentially every line has been scrambled.

Going to be a different looking team tonight. Hope it brings results.

It's a young and inexperienced team, especially on D and in net where hockey is won and lost. Wozney and Parker are freshmen. Malmstrom and Coyle aren't good enough to be playing important minutes. Then obviously you lose Rose for an extended period of time and have to play a young goaltender.

The roster construction isn't very good and we knew this coming into the season. There are a few guys who can score but you eliminate them and BG is hardly much of a threat. That's gotta change or you're correct, the program is going to fade back into obscurity.
