Gordon and Reece Dismissed

Post by mbenecke »

Myron Gordon and Joe Reece have been dismissed from the BGSU men’s basketball program, effective immediately. No reason was given beyond the “failure to meet the standard of expectation” line.

Time for the coach who fleeced BGSU for money, then took anybody he could find in the portal, to find a scapegoat. Cue the circus music inside the Stroh. One thing we learned from Dylan Frye, never say never on a random return to the team.

What does BGSU pay Michael Brown to do? Isn't he supposed to help with this stuff? Does he get paid to clap and give high fives?

Fire Huger...now

That team does not have a coach. It has a guy who stands on the sidelines and yells...but they play like five guys playing pick up at the rec center. If he isn't going to actually do his job...stop letting him into the building. These kind of window dressing dismissals are meant to trick people into thinking that he's playing the role of a disciplinarian. Watch them play...you will quickly see that there is no one in charge

They can't fire Huger for lack of leadership. They don't have a leader in the actual athletic department. Moosbrugger is window dressing a functional AD.

Gordon and Reece did not live up to the standards of the program. But, Huger played them 23 and 18 minutes each last night and is now pulling the trigger on it when the season is basically over.

C'mon dude. For all we know, something happened after the game, or last night, or today. Say what you want about Huger, but I seriously doubt that he went into last night's game thinking, "I'll play Myron and Joe tonight, then get rid of them tomorrow."

C'mon dude. Reece was told to stay home and not allowed on the bus to Central Michigan. That was 2 weeks ago.

The article says something about behavior standards. Maybe they got super fired up over looking like such crap? Heck, maybe they spoke their mind about the leadership, or lack there of? It’s hard telling. But, the entire thing smells wrong. You just dumped probably two of our top three players.

Folks, Michael Huger just learned last night about the potential hurdles when bringing in 5 players from the transfer portal. Poor Michael didn't understand the risks.

Maybe they showed up unprepared to play. Maybe they completely ignored every play call. It could be any number of things.

I'm not shocked about Gordon at all. He was clearly the best player on the floor for several of the games, but he seemed to be ill-received by a lot of his teammates from the jump.

Reece is a surprise and disappointment. I thought he brought positive energy most of the time he was on the floor and most of our best runs were usually when he was participating. I would have to guess that things got physical after the Buffalo game and this is the choice that had to be made by the coaching staff.

That said, I am also on the Fire Huger train now. I had one foot on after the Norfolk State game, and the second one on after the Akron loss last month.

Reece had the weird thing with his dad on social media, wonder if that had something to do with this too. Joe could have easily said something to Huger after the game last night which kinda set things off.

As far as Gordon, he always seemed kind of selfish and went to the beat of his own drum.

The common denominator here though is these guys were brought in by the current staff and couldn't even last a full year. Big concern the staff can't even bring in character guys from the portal.

This has a similar feeling to it like the last year of Brandon's tenure with the football program. It's evident the program needs a new direction and voice.
