It was physical size vs heart. Our guys did stand their O-Line up but not enough to get to White the way I wanted them to at least. I would have loved to see more blitzing from us but we also needed anyone and everyone we could in our secondary that game.ironmikecw wrote:Hamb I agree with most of your post ,but must take major exception about the d-line. they did not get totally dominated at the los in fact on several plays rushing and passing Mike T. and Brad both stood up OU double teams and pushed them back.
My thoughts
After watching the horrible time the D-Line had in both Miami(OH) games last year, I thought they did a great job yesterday. Sure, there could have been more pressure, there can ALWAYS be more pressure, but to get to White many more times than they got to Ben shows something for what the guys on the line or the coaches in the booth learned from those two games last year.
And because of short passes or not, Omar did a great job of avoiding pressure most of the day, I thought he was screwed on the first TD pass, but to stay that composed early in a game like that, I knew the next 3 years are going to be awesome!! (How good of a WR can Turner or Johnson be? I'd start practicing routes, I think.) BTW, what was the deal on the play where an OU linebacker (?) came jumping in after a pass, landed on Omar and brought him down by his head? Thought they were all about protecting QB's in this game?? *shrug*

That's about what I was going to post this morning.Tommy Glantz Is A Sniper wrote:I'm not into moral victories. Moral victories are for people who can't get their hands on regular victories.
But today I'm proud of our guys. Proud to be a Falcon.
I hate moral victories.
But this was the No. 2 team in the country. We aren't. We know that.
Yet we stood up to them. We scored 24 points -- which only three teams managed to do against the Sooners last year. And we had a prayer with 5 minutes left.
I'm proud of the Falcons and I feel *very* good about the rest of this season.
The Blade had a good take on the game today. The headline was: "BG loses game, finds a quarterback."
I feel good today.
Why aren't you guys talking about your linebackers? I thought they played well with 30 combined tackles. They turned some potentially big plays into short gains.
Your QB was impressive. I wouldn't worry too much about the 3/4 release. Even if he never changes it, he will learn to use it to his advantage. I thought you had some pretty gutty receivers. They didn't wilt going over the middle even after getting hammered a few times.
Stoops defensive philosophy is to shut down the run first. We usually neutralize the run game. Watch the OU-Texas game this year and you will most likely see OU shut down a top-shelf run game. So your run game is probably not a worry, either.
Overall, you were impressive. Good luck!

I expected Bowling Green to play a good game, and the Falcons did nothing to disappoint me.
While one game does not a season make, I don't think Jacobs could have had a much more auspicious debut. I was impressed with his ability to ad lib and make something out of nothing when it looked like OU had the play stopped. I also think seversal of your players are NFL bound.
OU needed a tough opponent, and Bowling Green filled the bill. I have to think this game will benefit both teams.
Good luck the rest of the way. I'll be dripping by from time to time to offer words of encouragement.

I'm not that worried about the pressure. I'm quite confident that our pass rush is fine, especially against MAC opponents. My point is in the run game. I know that ironmike is biased, and I can respect that. I also know that he's correct there were plays where our DTs pushed the OL back and made a play. However, the fact remains that we were dominated up front over the course of the game. We gave up a career rushing high to their incumbent starter and a 100 yard game to a true freshman's first game. Total we gave up 258 yards and they averaged about 5.0 per carry. We got dominated on 3rd downs (and 4th), and they dominated the time of possession battle nearly 2:1. These are the statistics that show a domination of our DL, especially the DTs. I don't fault them in the least, because I think they played their butts off and left it all on the field. They are just too small to consistently stuff the run against an OL of that quality.TG1996 wrote:After watching the horrible time the D-Line had in both Miami(OH) games last year, I thought they did a great job yesterday. We will NEVER beat one of these top 10 teams until we get some DTs that are big enough to stuff the middle. Our LBs consistently made tackles 5-7 yards downfield yesterday, and that is just not good enough if we want to beat these quality teams.
