Lakers shat the bed against the Tommies tonight. Doesn't change anything for us, we still need to win 2 of 3 for home ice.

Team plays a losing brand of hockey. They don't have the talent to be trying to take risks in pinching defensemen and the like. Bergeron played a boring style of hockey but his teams worked hard and it worked. No idea what is currently being coached but this ain't it.

I can't figure out what the strategy is through the neutral zone. Dump along the boards, bash it around, stand in place, then dump it in while no one enters the offensive zone with any speed. Teams have figured out that we can't handle a strong forecheck.

Well, the sun came up once again today. Still a massive opportunity in front of us.

It’s senior night in Bowling Green, OH. Tonight, we’ll honor Alex Barber, Nathan Burke, Taylor Schneider, Coale Norris, Evan Dougherty, Trevor St-Jean, Sam Craggs, and Gabe Chicoine in what could be their final home games of the season or potentially their college hockey careers.

Hoping for a great crowd and a strong effort tonight.

Norris and Craggs are the only ones that exhaust their eligibility this season, correct?

To my knowledge, yes. Every “senior” is going to be recognized, but those are the only 2 guys that cannot return next year because of eligibility reasons.

Whether any of the rest actually come back feels up in the air to me. Not sure how it will work with the scholarship count and everything else. But I would welcome a number of those guys back for next year, when our younger pieces have more experience.

Likely be a similar situation to last year where some guys will transfer out simply because it's a numbers game and new recruits need to come in.

Right. It’s easy to see some guys leaving, while it would make a lot of sense for others to end up staying. Taylor Schneider could stay for another season with his brother Spencer. Dougherty could be back because he’s missed a lot of time with injury. With Barber, you never know - he’s our captain, and he might wanna stick around for another year at this place. Chicoine has a guaranteed top defensive pair spot next year if he wants it. Burke seems likely to go pro, but he’s our best player next year if he comes back. We can wish TSJ well, but I would imagine his college career is done with this season - at least here. Some decisions to be made, for sure.

One other variable will be the possibility of pro signings. Even with NLI (not sure anybody here is really making a lot from it), risking injury during a 5th year if you have interest from paying professional teams is a lot to weigh. If the professional ranks were running full bore at the end of last season, there would have only been 1 or 2 transfers out. The rest would have most likely signed contracts of some sort. While the portal will probably be a little crazy again this year, I don't think it will be close to the craziness of last year.

Academics is a big factor too. A guy with his degree and no interest in a post-grad probably isn't sticking around.

Trevor St. John on the lineup sheet as the extra skater. Austin Swankler is a scratch.

Scardina out as well. I know he missed time earlier this year with concussion problems. Horrible state of hockey when a coach has to ASK for that hit to be reviewed.

Stoever can't afford to give up soft goals like that. Just brutal.

Strong first period effort. The goal given away was rough, but we’re taking it to them so far, winning shots 11-4.

Goal for the second period is to get another from a quality chance (increase the number of quality chances in general?) and keep imposing our will defensively, as we really have done pretty well with so far.

Guys seem really amped up. I’d imagine the fanfare of senior night and a big crowd contribute to that.

Very tired of the old man sitting behind the NMU bench with his stupid freaking kazoo. If nothing else, let’s shut that guy up here, boys.
