The parents last night were mentioning that the biggest issue with Eigner is the lack of accountability for things like bad penalties during practice and off the ice. Night and day compared to Bergeron. The discipline issues are a direct correlation to that.

Kind of a different situation. Pooch was always the players' head coach here. It was a long enough time span that no players he recruited as an assistant here, were still here. The relationship between player and assistant coach is very different than between player and head coach. It's one of the reasons promoting from within is difficult to succeed quickly. First year is usually really good/very close to the last season with the previous head coach, then things tend to fall off a bit for a couple seasons. The challenge that remains to be seen is if the new head coach can recover and bring the program back up. He needs to change the relationship with his current players, while maintaining the head coach relationship he wants with the new incoming players going forward. It can be an ugly process at this level.Rightupinthere wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 4:01 pmUh-oh. This season really hasn't gone much different than anybody really anticipated. Half the lineup didn't play here last season, and going into the last weekend of the season are in control of earning home ice. It's frustrating because we all know the team could be better based on the early season success, but we also aren't on the inside with the ability to affect it.
I will add both Eigner and Pooch played for Jerry, and I'm sure the way things were in the 80s are not allowed now, nor do those guys want to make things like they were then.

This season would have been way worse without Burke and Norris in the fold, who account for 33% of the team's goal scoring production. Toss in Swankler and that number is 43%. So the two guys who are only going to likely be here for one season, and the guy the program lucked into getting is basically carrying half of the production. I get that the team lost a lot of above average college hockey players, but the fact that the guys the current staff has mostly recruited the last few years aren't contributing much is very concerning.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 6:56 pmKind of a different situation.
