Anthony Stacey

Might've already been mentioned here but word on the street is Anthony Stacey will replace Huger at season end. Thoughts?

Uh oh. Don't feed the trolls.

Inquiring minds want to know what Stacey had to do with Dylan Frye and the handling of a couple of players....

I know his HS team wins.

I know after he left us we got worse.

I don't know anything at all about him and Dylan Frye nor any other players on the team during his tenure. Maybe I should.

I DOUBT he is a strong D1 head coaching candidate right now. But I could be wrong about that.

Knowing nothing but the above, I would still take him on a 3 year deal over Huger because I KNOW what Huger brings. And I don't want it any more.

I want hope.

I'm at least curious of where this is actually being discussed. Does it have any legit sourcing behind it or is it just fan hopes?

Personally, I'd at least be intrigued. He seemed to keep us together a few years ago, and he's running a successful program at Whitmer HS right now. Seems somewhat unqualified to be a HC at the D1 level, but he was a D1 assistant for 5 years here, so at least he's been in the building working in a D1 program.

I wasn't impressed with him the few practices I went to and I want to get a quality college coach. Stacey barely has experience as a college coach and needs more before he is ready.

I think rumors are just fan hype with him being a great bg player plus the correlation with our success

I've been quietly watching the ... enlightening discussions ... on the basketball forum. I don't post here with any regularity because a) I don't have time to follow more than one sport with detail anymore and b) I'm a total jinks io the program. But I've been following recently because it is rather apparent the sharks are circling the program and the coach right now, just not quite to the extent of the football program in 2018. But anyways, here to say that I don't see this coming to fruition for a myriad of reasons and it feels like desperation.

To be totally honest I bet Huger will be the coach here through the length of his contract. I thought it was foolish to give him more than 2 year extension for a single albeit really damn fun season a few years back. The athletic department's best alternative to signing the extension was far greater than Huger's as there was no real threat of Huger leaving. The consequence of signing a long extension is getting stuck with a stagnant coach. Now if Huger were a serious candidate at other places back in 2019 that's a different story.

CHARLIE COLES:
After graduating from Miami, he became a long-time successful high school basketball coach, beginning in Springfield and Yellow Springs before serving as head coach at Saginaw High School in Saginaw, Michigan. He coached the Trojans from 1972 to 1982, leading them to two state championship appearances.[4]

He then moved on to the college ranks, serving as an assistant coach at the University of Detroit from 1982 to 1985.

Coles was the men's basketball head coach at Central Michigan University from 1986 to 1991. He compiled a 92–84 mark in his six seasons with the Chippewas, including 22–8 in 1986–87. Coles was named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Coach of the Year that season after leading CMU to the MAC regular-season and tournament championships and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. That team was led by future NBA All-Star Dan Majerle.

From 1992 to 1994 he served as head coach at Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, with a record of 32–16 there.[5][6]

1967–1968 Sycamore HS (assistant)
1968–1969 Shawnee HS
1969–1972 Yellow Springs HS
1972–1982 Saginaw HS
1982–1985 Detroit (assistant)
1985–1991 Central Michigan
1992–1994 Central Catholic HS In Toledo
1994–1996 Miami (OH) (assistant)
1996–2012 Miami (OH)

If the threat of a coach leaving comes from George Washington and Fordham, it's not a real threat. If the threat of a coach with a less than .500 MAC coaching record, comes from George Washington and Fordham, it's a laughable threat. Bob Moosbrugger fell for it because he and Kit were desperate for something to try make them look good. That's what matters most. No good coach wants those terrible jobs, just money grabs. See Keith Dambrodt. Money grab and the end of his career.

Letting go of one alum to bring in another would be peak for this athletic department. I'd wager good money on Huger being the coach next year.

He most certainly will be back next season.

The future is so bright.

BG loses its top 4 scorers from this season.

No potential All MAC performers return.

He will be back for 1 single reason. It has nothing to do with trajectory or anything that makes even fiscal sense. Bob Moosbrugger won’t be able to admit he a made terrible decision.

Chris Jans is now 23-4 by the way.

It needs blown up. Blown up with all fresh bodies. The problem is we need an athletic department incapable of parking cars efficiently at a hockey game, to do it. We’re asking a administrator to fire the coach who gave his kid a roster spot. We need the biggest blow up ever. The type only the President and Board of Trustees can really do. On a positive note, Holy Cross did us a big favor and took one of layers to it away.

I want a new coach as well as anyone but blowing up rosters isn't how teams work. You can't recruit 13 guys in one year.

The new coach will start out with something like
1 Curtis(Sr)-Metheny(So)
2 Fields(Sr)-Lightfoot(Fr)
3 Mills(Jr)-Fulcher(So)
4 Turner(Jr)-Young(So)
5 O'Neal(Sr)-Etim(Fr)

Maybe Kulackovksis comes back. I would love it if somehow Reece came back.

Regardless the new coach would have 1-3 scholarships probably for Xfers.

There is some talent at G in Fulcher and Metheny. Turner-Fields and Curtis are fine rotational pieces. Otherwise lots of unknowns. In todays college game you could pass out 2-3 starting positions and get 3 very good players.

1 Curtis(Sr)-Metheny(So)-Lightfoot(Fr)
2 Fields(Sr)-Fulcher(So)
3 XFER-Mills(Jr)-Young(So)
4 Turner(Jr)-XFER
5 XFER-O'Neal(Sr)-Etim(Fr)

Interesting that Joe Reece dad keeps saying his son is a PF. Would have loved to see him next to Matiss. Can't fail any worse than we already are.
