Time for Dakich to move on?
I love Dakich and think he is a solid coach, but the program does not seem to be going anywhere. Next year will likely be another down year and Dakich is in the last year of his contract. Is now the right time to make a move? I don't know, but it needs to be considered. Some will say look what he did with a team we expected to do very little this season. And I think he did great and it was a surprisingly positive season. But my overall response would be why did we expect them to do very little this season..He brings in the talent(and is the reason many of them transfer out). Next year will be a rebuilding type year no matter what. And if we wait too long Krebs may be gone and we may have an inexperienced AD picking our coach. Even during our great years with McLeod there were rumors of a sour relationship between Dan and Keith. Just a thought, I await your responses....

I love Dan for everything he's done for this university and basketball team.
I'm not ready to fire the guy, but I wouldn't cry to see himi gone right now either. I'm just real tired of watching our brand of basktetball. It's boring even when we're winning. I want to bring in some better athletes and RUN the court.
I think that our style of ball has a lot to do with our attendance issues. Sure you'll bring in people when we're winning 20-25 games a season, but when you aren't winning that consistently people won't want to pay to watch us go into 7:00 stretches with 2 points.

I never wrote that. I wrote that this year was a surprisingly positive year but that next year would likely be another down year. Not sure if you remember the previous two seasons and how those went. Let me know if you do.ZiggyZoomba wrote:This was a "down year?"Germainfitch1 wrote:I love Dakich and think he is a solid coach, but the program does not seem to be going anywhere. Re: Time for Dakich to move on?
For a team that lost what you did(in the offseason) I had the Falcons pegged for fighting for the last spot in the conference. How anyone could say that this was a down year is absurd.ZiggyZoomba wrote:This was a "down year?"Germainfitch1 wrote:I love Dakich and think he is a solid coach, but the program does not seem to be going anywhere. Again.....I dont know who is saying that but I agree with you. Re: Time for Dakich to move on?
I say we fire him just based upon the "sour relationship" rumors alone!! Wow... why wasn't he fired immediately upon those grounds? Allow me to refer you to the interview with Keith this website published a few months back:Germainfitch1 wrote: I never wrote that. Do I remember the previous two seasons... um... gee... let me think. Why, in fact, I DO... I remember most of the past 27 seasons. Thanks for asking.AZZ.COM - DESCRIBE YOUR TIME AT BOWLING GREEN.
KM - It was great to me...I came in, it started out rough, stuck it out...I butted heads with Coach Dak (Dakich) a little bit, but as I got older and understood what he was trying to tell me and teach me, it went a lot better.
AZZ.COM - WHAT PLAYERS AND COACHES DO YOU KEEP IN CONTACT WITH FROM BOWLING GREEN?
KM - I talked to Brandon Pardon a week ago. Cowboy,(Brent Klassen) I talk to Cowboy on a regular basis, he leaves me crazy voice mails. I talk to Coach Dak (Dakich), talk to Cory Ryan a lot...
You know... with your line of Krebs thinking... maybe we should fire all our coaches and get new ones, because if we wait too long...
Never mind...

So you are telling me that you dont want to factor in the FACT that Krebs has been looked at for other positions and may be moving on to the situation with Dakich.
Let me ask you this. Would you rather have Krebs hire a new basketball coach or a new unexperienced AD?
Dont put words in my posts. I never even came close to saying we should fire all the rest of our coaches and that logic is absurd. But if we are considering moving in a different direction in a certain sport if I was the President I would much rather have Krebs choose the replacement than a new AD.
What I think is going to happen is we are going to keep DD around for annother year he will do poorly(as expected with the talent he has returning) and then we will let him go. Why not do it now?

Yes, that's what I'm telling you.Germainfitch1 wrote:So you are telling me that you dont want to factor in the FACT that Krebs has been looked at for other positions and may be moving on to the situation with Dakich.
I don't care.Germainfitch1 wrote:Let me ask you this. Would you rather have Krebs hire a new basketball coach or a new unexperienced AD?
I'm not putting words into your posts, I'm making smart-assed comments.Germainfitch1 wrote:Dont put words in my posts. I believe he has two years remaining on his contract, so are we going to buy out his last year?Germainfitch1 wrote:What I think is going to happen is we are going to keep DD around for annother year he will do poorly(as expected with the talent he has returning) and then we will let him go. You're fascinating me. What should we do about Curt Miller? How can we re-instate the men's track program? What's the capital of Nevada?

Very true, so I did.Warthog wrote:I think you said the same thing about Brandon after the Toledo debacle.hammb wrote:I'm not ready to fire the guy, but I wouldn't cry to see himi gone right now either.
2 different scenarios though. With Brandon I think he's in over his head. With Dan I'm just tired of watching his brand of basketball.

For my two cents, I had serious concerns after our off-season losses on top of two losing seasons. We were 18-11 this year, and while we didn't get it done, I certainly think that Coach Dakich can turn this program around and that we are headed in the right direction. We're not there, and no should be (or is) satisfied, but its not time for a change.
We understand next year will be a tough season. We are going to be very young, because our Lewis/Moss class panned out to nothing. I think Coach deserves two seasons. We need to see this class as Freshmen and Sophomores--if they are delivering, than we can start to rebuild. If they are flaming out or leaving, then its time for a re-evaluation.
