Well.....we're are not mathematically eliminated from a tie with WMU for LAST place. Maybe we can go make that happen.

Saturday's showdown for the MAC basement should be a lot of fun. Bowling Green isn't the only school who waved the white flag on it's basketball program. Clayton Bates, will be coaching one of his final 3 games at Western Michigan. Let's compare the salaries.
Beauregard gave Bates a two-year contract that's worth $220,000 annually in base pay, $185,000 less than Hawkins was making. It's the lowest salary in the Mid-American Conference
Let's just have fun Falcons.

Your job as a coach is to make sure the kids have fun, learn a little bit, and want to come back and play the next practice or game.
That was my philosophy...............when I coached my sons T-ball team.

We weren't able to make shots,” Falcons coach Michael Huger said. “We had some good looks. We have to be able to knock them down. We missed some key free throws that will keep you in the game. We missed some layups. The biggest thing, we weren't able to defend the way we're capable of defending. We were more worried about playing than we were defending."
Just like Bill Frack envisioned it to be. We don't do anything well.

I would argue we defended last night exactly how we're capable of defending. At least that's what we've seen all year.guest44 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 8:43 am We weren't able to make shots,” Falcons coach Michael Huger said. “We had some good looks. We did miss a couple open layups. Of course for each open layup we missed there was at least one crazy ass drive and throw up a prayer from either Curtis or Fulcher that actually DID go in.
In reality it felt to me like we were managing to keep the game close until we needed to let Curtis get a breather in the 2nd half. I don't think we were ever going to win, but there was a good stretch where everytime they'd get the lead to 8-9 we'd cut it back to 3-4. But that stretch with Fulcher as the primary ball handler we still didn't get any stops and we stopped answering them. Felt like it was up to about 12 by the time Curtis got back on the court and it never got better.
Too bad we didn't have another good ball handler/scorer to bring in to give our starting PG a breather.

WTF does "we were more worried about playing than defending" even mean?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

If Huger was/is still safe, finishing in last may change things. I’d be shocked if he’s let go after this year, but if they end tied in dead last I would be less surprised.

I made it through the first 31 minutes before tapping out. We are really bad but I did want to mention how awesome Samari looked last night, completely locked in in the first half. Got to the rim with ease and was finishing with both hands. Made a couple 3's that kept the first half close too and I think his court vision has improved immensely as conference play has progressed. Most importantly, he looks like he is trying to embrace the role as a leader. High fiving guys, talking on defense, clapping his hands on defense. He even got up in Mattiss' a little bit during a media timeout after a couple lazy hedges in the prior defensive possessions. Nothing aggressive or with elevated temper, he just looked like he wanted to be the floor general last night. I also noticed he's the one doing most of the talking during those mini huddles after a foul.
We still suck really hard and I know he hasn't been perfect this season but I really like what Samari brings to the table.
