BG is now 0-for-42 in its quest for a MAC Tournament title
.....and we don't even get to play in the damn thing year. The ONLY team in the MAC without a single championship title gets to carry the torch for yet another year. Pathetic....
GO BG!!!

Embarrassing.
I’m 24, and I’m legitimately afraid I’ll never see an NCAA tournament berth in my lifetime.

I'm 53 and have never seen an NCAA appearance with nothing on the immediate horizon that makes me believe I will even see another serious contender to break the streak before the downside of my 50's.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Happy to say I was a freshman at BGSU in 1963 and not only witnessed the win over the Eventual NCAA champion Loyola, but also their appearance in the regional of the NCAA tournament that year.
Doubt I will ever see another.

Casual observer and I have no idea how some of the diehards can deal with this year after year.

Just needs some leadership. Dakich was close, he just ran into a Kent team that was probably the best team of the decade in the MAC. Program has the budget and facility to be one of the top teams year over year. Unfortunately you have to earn it. It isn’t easy, but it can be done.

Kowalzyck has been at UT for a long time. I understand why many ut fans are frustrated with him since his Mac tourney results have also been really bad, losing as the favorite more times than not. But I've always thought he was a solid coach and you saw a systematic dismantling tonight.
I've long taken my only solace in the fact that UT also hadn't been to the tour ament since my birth year. I'm afraid that might be ending this year.

The problem has been consistent for several decades. Mediocre coaches get at minimum 7 years to do nothing. Never ever learning from past mistakes. Leadership more interested in what’s best for them over what’s best for BGSU. Once a coach has even the slightest success, it gets compared to the failures of the previous coaches. When you grade success off the pathetic standards of the past, you will continue to get mediocre results.
Like this classic from the former BGSU Basketball SID the other day. Huger is the first coach to have 3 consecutive winning MAC records in 2 decades. Ok great. Those two decades include 5 dog crap years of too much Dakich and 7 years of Louis Orr. Oh, and back then BG operated with a peanuts basketball budget in a building so old you couldn’t take a piss on the second floor. Until the standard changes, nothing changes. Bill Frack spoke to what he hoped the standard could be. It sounded crazy. Has Bowling Green even taken a single step toward that. Nope Michael Huger is on schedule to get paid for 10 years and is 10 games under .500 in the MAC. Now we give below average coaches multiple contract extensions because the money isn’t the issue. The standard of Bowling Green is to talk about how cool the shoes are, and do favors for our own administrators, and even other schools administrators.

He really wasn't. Everything he did was rooted in what Knight ran in the 70's and 80's. It was outdated and unoriginal then, and it showed when it mattered.TommyG wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:59 pm Just needs some leadership. I was 6 and playing with hotwheels up in the corner of section O in Anderson arena in 1976 when we started going to games. We kept going. I explored every inch of that gym.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:50 pm Casual observer and I have no idea how some of the diehards can deal with this year after year.
I was a jr. Falcon the first year of the MAC tourney when David Greer was our PG and OU beat us, at home, in the final.
Went to college there.
Met my wife there.
After the NCAA expanded to 64 teams for the tourney, if the regular season champ lost in the MAC tourney, they usually went dancing anyway. The first time they did not, and 3 of the first 4 times, it was us getting screwed. WE have been every bit as good as MAC teams that got selected but they will not select us.
That bond is hard to break. Try as I might, it doesn't get broken through frustration or emotion. What can do it though, is indifference. Huger actually drove me away from even checking box scores for a couple weeks this year. There was no damn point. But my connection to Plowden and Diggs kept me coming back.
I don't have anything like that kind of connection to anybody still on the team.
Re: BG is now 0-for-42 in its quest for a MAC Tournament title
He most definitely was close to getting to the NCAA in 2002. Very easily could have been an at large team…Kent was special that year and BG was right there with them. Not saying BG was going to be a powerhouse every year, but Dakich’s first run was entertaining and they always competed hard.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 7:34 amHe really wasn't. You just missed my mom and dad, they finished up in '62. My dad still talks about about those Thurmond and Komives teams.

There are 358 schools in Division I. Just nine have been trying and failing to get to the NCAA tournament for as long as Bowling Green.
Of those schools, Columbia, Dartmouth, Army, Tennessee Tech, Maine, and St. Francis Brooklyn are definitely not going to be in the tournament this season.
Hope is still alive for:
-- The Citadel, a Southern Conference tournament 9-seed. They will face top-seed Chattanooga today.
-- New Hampshire, the No. 3 seed in the America East tournament. They'll face 6-seed Binghamton tomorrow.
-- William & Mary, which will play in an 8-9 game in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament today against Northeastern.

Re: BG is now 0-for-42 in its quest for a MAC Tournament title
I was a soph in 1968 which was a glory year for BG and of course the last year to make the Tourney when only conference champs went. This was a team that took down 2 Big 10 Teams including Michigan during the season. They lost a close one to a Al McGuire coached Marquette team in the opening round. As I remember no TV (at least where I was ) but could hear it on the radio. I was at Crisler Arena in 1982 when BG's runnerup MAC team coached by John Weinert lost in the semis to Northern Illinois as Alan Rayhorn (very good player and a horse on the court) grabbed a rebound/put back at the buzzer for a one point BG loss. I think that team could have gone on - Marcus Newbern averaged 20 PPG and David Jenkins, Bill Faine, and David Greer were a very good support. Of course in 1983 that team without Newbern won the MAC regular season and lost a tourney game at Anderson to Ohio. There has only really been a couple more times over the years since when BG definitely had the horses to win but the streak goes on. My opinion-- we are not in a better place in the MAC for a future run than early Dakich years.
