I'm happy to see that Jans has righted his personal ship and found success. Good for him.

Firing him for his behavior was not only justified, but absolutely what I thought should happen at the time, and still think it was the proper course of action. Should things have been addressed internally before it got out of hand? Probably, yes. At the very least it should have been communicated that he cannot keep being seen intoxicated in public in such a small college town. I know Revs was my favorite hangout/restaurant in BG at the time and I started to find it odd that he was there literally every time I went in there. OF course he was often times just getting started on the drinks when we were heading out. Again, I thought it odd, but figured he had been busy at the office until late and needed to wind down. I was never there late enough to see anything out of line.

Either way, I have no idea if it was ever addressed with him or if they merely turned a blind eye to it until the video came out. It was wrong for them to turn a blind eye towards it because it was inevitable that something worse was going to materialize. But regardless once that something worse did materialize he needed to be let go.

But firing Chris Jans is NOT why BG hoops is in the place it's in. Jans was a find coach with some personal demons, but he was not the only good coach available to us then, nor is he now. The problem was that Mr. Frack passed away in between Jans's hiring and firing. So the morons in charge of BGSU undertook a "national search" and came upon an alum who was an assistant coach with zero demand as a coach and gave him the same lucrative contract that it took to lure a hot commodity like Jans to BG. THEN after a largely mediocre start to his tenure that BG alum had a good season that came from nowhere (remember we were selected LAST that year) and he screwed his alma mater by leveraging fake rumors of another job to get a RAISE from the already lucrative contract. Then he screwed his alma mater AGAIN by leveraging a global pandemic to tack on ANOTHER YEAR to his already lucrative contract.

Kudos to Jans, he is a very good basketball coach. There are plenty of other very good basketball coaches out there if the administration at BG had the wherewithal to actually look for them. Not to mention a BG alum that claims to be a BG Falcon at heart has no problem screwing us over for his own personal gain.

Glad he's put in the work to seemingly get his personal life back on track and has been able to rehab his career.

He got what he deserved here though and it was a major embarrassment to the university when it occurred. He pissed away a good opportunity and was held accountable for his abhorrent behavior and poor choices.

Happy to see Jans having success. We all know the guy can really coach. I think he had to go through the stuff at BG to get to where he is now. Some big school will hire him away soon IMO. The dude just wins.. A LOT. All the best to Coach Jans.

This argument has been on here so many times, argued by the same people that I don’t even need to read the posts, I already know what everyone is going say.

And yet we still come here..... LOL

I so love(d) the Orr and Huger years. I can still see the over and back call that was part of Jans' only season, and we can remember Dakich II, Larranaga, Weinert and Haley.

That's some hoop history there. I wish we could have had more success.

Sounds like Kansas State is coming for Jans. In the meantime, go Aggies.

I often wonder if I'd still be here, and attending BG hoops games, if my college career had not coincided with that Dakich 1.0 timeline. I attended games as a kid with my grandparents, then picked it up again when I was in HS (Daniels years), then went religiously while I was in school (98-02). Sadly, we haven't seen close to that level of success since.

Wow, they swooped him! I had heard that Jans to Kansas State was all but done.

Hell, if Jans had stayed at BG, he would've been hired away by now.
