I'm kinda surprised by this one.

Where did you see it? I don't doubt you, I just haven't been able to find it anywhere, including on that spreadsheet that was posted earlier in the thread.
GopherPuckLive portal link, this one is sorted by date they entered the portal: https://gopherpucklive.com/transfer-portal/
New Hampshire has one in a Google Sheet, this one has player stats: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Edit: And wouldn't you know it, just as I went into the UNH Google Sheet to confirm Lloyd was in there (he is), I found two other people with their cursors on his line. He isn't going to stay in the portal long. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

These guys in the portal were all recruited by Chris Bergeron, right?

If so, I could see some of them making their way down to Oxford.

Ouch, that's a big loss. Arguably the best blueliner that was returning and probably the only guy on the back end who could reliable skate the puck up ice. Pretty obvious that transition class is on their way out for one reason or another. Wish I had more intel on why.

This leaves the roster with only six active D-men even with Blake and Norris joining the program, only two of which are right-handed shots. Definitely going to be addition(s) from the portal. Babiak, Daly, Lloyd all right-handed shots and all on their way out.

Yes and no. Bergeron wasn't highly active in the recruiting process. He left most of it to Barry and Ty, and really only got directly involved when absolutely necessary. You could probably go do some Twitter stalking and see when these guys actually committed. I think a couple may have been additions during the transitional offseason.

Lloyd's a surprise for sure. But at the same time, the defensive system seems to have changed this past season when compared to the two previous, and I don't want to say he struggled this season, he just didn't look as good as the previous two. Did he graduate? Maybe looking at grad school? I dunno. There has been a lot of early signings from the tournament teams also.

Who is recruiting/running the defense, Stavros or Curtis?

Coach Carr stands behind the defensemen on the bench.

Carr is definitely the defensive coach. Balkovec was running the offense when he was here, and Paskaris was hired to fill his role.

Bobby Mo is back in Atlantic Hockey pending final approval from member presidents. Apparently the vote was not unanimous.

It's fascinating to read about so many programs making the jump to (or back to) D1 college hockey in the next few years. Seems like we might be on the brink of more large-scale realignment in the sport, right? I wonder what the timeline could be on that.

Bobby Mo is just the latest in a troubling trend of fundraising. Threaten or actually cut the program, and the public will fund you.

I don't expect much conference movement until those new programs can show they are well established in the sport. St Thomas was added to the CCHA for 2 reasons. First, they have money and their alums like to give them more. Second they elevated their entire athletic department to Division 1, which means BG isn't the only one giving the conference a seat at the NCAA table. Their location just made it an absolute no-brainer.

Probably be awhile. Conference members aren't going to be interested in adding anyone who could potentially drag down the overall competitive balance. The last thing any conference is going to want is a program like UAH/UAA/UAF where beating them means absolutely nothing, but losing is disastrous for PWR.

I do believe we'll eventually see another league form out of necessity once there are enough independents.

I'm surprised there are so many universities willing to go the independent route in hopes of latching on to a conference. One would think a University would want a conference commitment before making the jump or bringing a team back.

It does feel a bit cart before the horse. Almost all of these schools though would be fully invested in hockey as it would be their sole D1 sport. There's plenty of money being made, and with more NHL teams seeing the development and investment into college hockey programs being a worthy one, it makes sense to strike while the iron is hot.
