The laughable part is the willingness to announce that he was giving back park of his salary during Covid. Then the unwillingness to announce it came with a 4 year contract extension months after hundreds lost jobs, and he cut baseball. That's Bowling Green State University.

That salary, $275,000, is pretty close to the median in the MAC for athletic directors. (Slightly under it, actually.) At the time Moose got that extension, Mike O'Brien was making $400,000 at Toledo, if not more. (He had some bonus opportunities as I understand it.)

Moose's 2020 contract extension does not seem unreasonable to me, at least at a glance.

I would add Eric Nichols (men’s soccer) and Jimmy Walker (women’s soccer) to this list, as well.

My issue is people were given extensions during a time when others were furloughed or being let go. It really stinks like a good ol' boys network. Then of course the university doesn't have the awareness to announce anything regarding the new contracts.

The extensions were given in exchange for furloughs at a time when incoming revenue was very uncertain. Is it possible other "pandemic" language was added to the contracts at that time?

Well by late August of 2020, the biggest revenue generator had already been collected. Student fees were collected. Who cares that football was postponed at the time. Who cares that spectators were pretty much guaranteed to be missing for the next academic year. The student fees were in. Why didn’t Moose discuss his extension? Instead he took over the Rec & Wellness department to get access to those student fees just in case. Why are multiple year contract extensions for the highest paid employees of BGSU not made public? Scumbags being scumbags.

My issue is the narrative. The publicity was that these guys took paycuts to help BGSU. When, in fact, they acted as savvy businessmen knowing they were failing in their jobs and took slight paycuts in the immediate to guarantee more years on the back end of their deals. It makes sense, it's common in contract negotiations that there would be a give and take. But let's not act like these guys were oh so wonderful giving back to BGSU. What they actually did was secure their own careers for additional years.

The more cynical view is that they saw an opportunity in a troubled time for the University to exploit more dollars from their own alma mater.

And, of course, the fans lose. We continue to be led by a completely inept Athletic Director. The basketball program will continue to flounder with mediocre coaching. And worse, we cannot even get that excited by the notion of moving on from Huger in the next couple years either because we all know we don't want Moose handing out any more multi-million dollar contracts. The only thing that remains to be seen at this point is just how deep a hole Moose can dig over the next 4 years.

Also, if Loeffler didn't jump in on the Covid contract extension party, he should find a new agent. Money was up for grabs via student fees from a state funded university and he might have missed. Or maybe Loeffler could have, but chose not to be a scumbag.

Fair enough...we should recognize that we do have some excellent coaches here....just nt in football or men's basketball

and maybe hockey

They publicized the COVID givebacks by coaches....why not publicize the fact that they were trade offs for contract extensions. The whole thing smacks of the kind of greasy insider crap usually reserved for Wall Street or politics

Here is the link. A ton of good information in here.

https://www.extrapointsmb.com/content/f ... Report.pdf

Moosbrugger contract starts around page 25 of the file.
Congrats to Moos on getting the bag. $275k per year is wild.
Great find, guest. Thanks for pulling that. An extension for him is pretty ridiculous given the recent years, but as we've talked about in other threads, seems like BG was one of the schools that did sweeping extensions for several coaches during Covid, which was dumb, but not unheard of. His pay isn't really a red flag to me. $275k to an AD is well below average. From what I can see, it's still third lowest in the MAC (only above EMU and CMU, each by about $1,000, assuming their salaries are the same as 2020). Athletics pay is so low that when I looked into an opening there several years ago, the salary was about 60% of what I was earning for a significant step up in title. Hard to get talent when you're working with those numbers.

Speaking of CMU...saw a story online about their plummeting enrollment. It's bad enough that some are questioning if the University can remain viable

This might actually be good news.

Maybe he is more likely to fire Huger with a long term deal.
