I think your expectations are completely unrealistic. These are kids just out of high school. The finest minds in advertising, marketing and the entertainment industry can't read how that demographic will react from one qtr to the next, but you expect a basketball coach to look into the future and magically detect which kids are going to flake out? Get a grip

I'm not even going to bother to unpack the stupidity involved in trying to speculate why a guy like Austin quit basketball and what could have been done to change his mind. If I'm going to jerk off, it's going to be over something more worthwhile.

And flipper brings another thread back to masturbation. None the less, this is what happens when someone only sees flaws in every other argument/opinion except his own.

I know....I need to take a break from this board for awhile. So many of the discussions get into this stupid, self aggrandizing whining about coaches, players etc...

I can't help but think we're all just jerking off.

See you all in a few months or whenever...

I like to see flaws in every argument... it's more fun. I often argue with calculated flaws to see if someone will take the bait. ;-)

I didn't talk to PGY specifically about this post, but my guess is YOU.

I thought so but it seemed odd because I often admit that I am wrong. Also his post followed Flippers who never admits he is wrong.

orangeandbrown wrote:For my two cents, I had serious concerns after our off-season losses on top of two losing seasons. We were 18-11 this year, and while we didn't get it done, I certainly think that Coach Dakich can turn this program around and that we are headed in the right direction. We're not there, and no should be (or is) satisfied, but its not time for a change.

We understand next year will be a tough season. We are going to be very young, because our Lewis/Moss class panned out to nothing. I think Coach deserves two seasons. We need to see this class as Freshmen and Sophomores--if they are delivering, than we can start to rebuild. If they are flaming out or leaving, then its time for a re-evaluation.
I think that this is clealry the best plan if Dakich has two more years left on his contract. In a recent chat someone brought up the idea that he had just a year left and it would be like a foolish to bring him back. If its two years thnt I would say see what this current class has to offer for those two years and ship him away if they do poorly. If things settle down and the transfers stop happening than we should be ok with this crop

He does have one year left. I'm saying he should get two years to show he is turning the program around.

[quoteAny head coach would be as hamstrung by the same awful facilities, limited budget and apathetic fan base as Dan has been. ![/quote]

This is true. And the hurdles seem insurmountable (sp.). But Urban Meyer had the same limitations and rose above them. If Dakich has two years left on his contract keep him around. If he has just one year left, and it is expected to be bad, why not try to find basketballs version of Urban Meyer?

Regardless of what happens i can't wait to see the Falcons play next year. I expect them to get about 10-13 wins only but we do have 3.5 starters returning with Wright, Soler, Floyd and Vandermeer. We lose a ton of scoring but that solid returning group of role/supporting players is a solid situation for a young scorer with potential to thrive.

Germainfitch was the hardest working basketball player I have ever seen. His jumping ability was unreal. He basically played the PF spot at 6-3/4. I admire him for his heart on the floor and how when he was on the floor the whole team gelled. He was more athlete and lunchbucket type than basketball player. He will always be one of my favorite falcons. Even if he gets a flat in Cali with Mystic Steve and Ricky Williams.

Your first paragraph has nothing to do with basketball. "THe finest minds in what not" take a snapshot of the general population and then project. A basketball coaches job is to act as a father figure to a student athlete for 2-6 years and he gets to choose which athletes get to join his family over individual discussions and research.

Then please give him the extension now because having a coach in the last year of his contract coach a team that is expected to be very poor is a recipe for disaster. fF he does horrible nextyear we cant exactly give him an extra year. Maybe a contract extension can rejuvenate him. Maybe he is just exhausted from all of the transfers and his near move to West Virginia.
