You folks who think the MAC is still a relevant conference are living in the past. ....

Yeah I'd take this is a massive grain of salt. Looks like it's basically built on data from the 2021 season. Not to say it won't be accurate, but whatever inputs are dated.

I disagree that MAC football is a joke. The conference has produced plenty of noteworthy NFL players in the last 20 years. 142 draft picks since 2000, 11 of which were first rounders and one #1 overall in 2013.
Well said.

I would add that the relentless negativity on this board is tiresome, and some of it is ironic.

I mean, here is Hammb claiming MAC football is a joke when the basketball program he posts so much about hasn't unambiguously won a MAC title in 54 years and finished 272nd in the country last season, according to the RPI.

And here is TommyG joking about the football team potentially playing in a weekday afternoon bowl game when his baseball team is lucky if a few dozen people will bother to show up and watch.

This index from ESPN, or whatever it is, seems about as meaningless as Jeff Sagarin's preseason computer rankings, which are only based on information from previous seasons as I understand it.

We will know how good the football team is this year once the season starts and the games begin. I sure do hope for improvement.

I wasn’t joking. That was a serious post. When BG gets back to a bowl game it will probably be mid-afternoon start on a workday. It may be coached by an interim coach and it will probably lose another $300-500K to play in.

90% of FBS is irrelevant. Same handful of programs have enjoyed success during the playoff era. Plenty of schools who have P5 football programs in conferences that they'll never come close to winning.

I'm not sure how this is ironic? I do think MAC football is a joke. I also think the way our basketball program has been run for at least the past 2 decades is an even bigger joke. I don't see how one of those things being true has any relevance to the truth of the other.

And if you are tired of the negativity of this board, I totally understand. I'm also quite tired of being negative about BG athletics. But that's what happens when you give a contract extension to an incompetent AD who has handed out multiple extensions to an incompetent basketball coach and hired himself an even more incompetent football coach. I would love nothing more than to NOT be negative on this board, but unfortunately BG is a total shitshow in the 2 biggest college sports and we just gave extensions to the people making it that way.

I do feel guilty about formerly being so negative about the likes of Gregg Brandon back in the day. Loeffler isn't fit to hold Brandon's visor as a coach, and that's where we're at now.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Either way, I imagine more people will watch than have witnessed an entire decade of Bowling Green baseball.
it will probably lose another $300-500K to play in.
Not so. All MAC bowl revenue is pooled, and the conference covers costs for participating schools.

If losing money is your concern, maybe we should turn our attention to the 9-20 Falcon baseball team, which drew 211 people to their home opener.

Right...so why are we pretending that we're not irrelevant and we play at "the same level as Ohio State"

Is Minnesota also pretending?

Image

Bowling Green regularly travels to Big Ten football stadiums and wins. The relevance of this seems self evident.

Knew that was coming….nothing better than those BIG10 wins!
Would have been a big win if the team didn’t regress in MAC play.

Any luck buying the site so you can ban everyone?

Yes ..Minnesota is pretending. They have only a slightly better chance of winning the B1G than we do and...like us..they have zero chance of winning a national title. The difference is, they make enough from the BTN to make their program work. We don't.

What did beating Minnesota get us this year? Nothing...

And it's kind of a dick move to call out baseball when their funding was cut...in part...to fund the football team. Baseball is fighting with one hand tied behind their backs...truly a shameful situation

It would be nice, wouldn't it, if we could come onto this board and talk about BGSU sports without having to defend their very existence?

And TommyG and many others have been taking shots at football on this board for years.

Again, I sincerely believe it would be nice if we could come onto this board and talk about BGSU sports without having to defend their very existence.

But if people are going to suggest places to cut, I'm going to point them to baseball.
