ESPN MAC Conference Football Power Index 2022
Re: ESPN MAC Conference Football Power Index 2022
I'd argue that this is largely a function of the fact that there are only 20-30 of us that actually still read and post on this board. We all know how we all feel about most things, and every conversation devolves into the same disagreements. Doesn't help that some of us take umbrage with nearly everything certain others say (myself included).jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 4:35 pm The negativity is warranted but every thread ends up hijacked and devolves into the same discussion. I think some of us would like a place to discuss the programs without that stuff creeping in. We're all aware of the myriad of issues the athletic department has. Personally, I wish some of the vitriol towards members would be tempered down a bit. Lord knows there have been moments where I've gotten sucked into it. It's okay to have differing points of view and it feels like in society now we've lost the ability to have constructive conversations with those we don't always see eye to eye with.
Just my two cents.
For instance, I didn't post on this thread to say we should drop football or anything. I was merely struck by how awful the entire conference is ranked nationally. Yes, it's based on last year's data, so means little, but it's still awful. It also aligns with my simple eye test, when I still watch...the MAC football product ain't what she used to be. Now that's not ONLY a MAC thing, I think college football on the whole is largely crap these days, but I feel the MAC has lost ground overall in a sport that is really not good these days.

I would submit that Flipper brings some of the most rational and correct takes on the board. Some of you villagers need to put away the torches.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

You will end up with the same thing on this board that you get on any board. A lot of people in the middle and a few people on each pole. A few trolls that just want to stir the pot. Probably one or two spies. It just is what it is.
What that means is there will always be people calling for the coach to be fired. If that number is growing, then that means the middle is shifting that way and the general public opinion is souring. If less people are calling for his head, then things must be going pretty well. But, there will always be that one or two people that think a coach should be fired after winning a conference title. There will always be that person (or people) that think everything needs to be cut. There will be the trolls that try to convince you that the entire thing is worthless and that the blame lies with anybody they can name.
I believe 95% of us are passionate BGSU fans. Hell, maybe 100%. I spent time in my younger years as a troll on a message board for my former high school athletics. I was irritated that I wasn’t given the chances I thought I deserved when I played there so I took it out on the current people. Funny thing is that I still wanted the team to do well, but I just couldn’t see past my stupid issues. With age came wisdom and I realize I actually didn’t work hard enough to earn those chances. I also left that board when I realized I was spending too much of my own time trying to just make other people angry.
I think we all have to understand that we all want BGSU to be successful. I sincerely doubt anybody here wants to see athletics completely fail. If a BGSU team won the MAC, made a tournament, or won a national title, we would all be excited. We just have different opinions on how to get our teams to that point. Just because we disagree on the plan doesn’t mean we disagree on the desired outcome.
I personally feel Huger has reached his peak and he’s now regressing because he doesn’t have an all-star player to cover up his coaching weaknesses. I feel Loeffler is currently undertaking an unimaginable rebuild after we kept a coach for entirely too long in a sport that simply takes longer to turn around due to the physicality required for the sport. I also feel Loeffler needs to have at least 5 wins this year and show that the team is competing in their losses (outside of UCLA) for me to believe that he’s making a positive impact on the program.
I believe hockey made a sloppy choice by promoting the assistant coach to head coach. Eigner hasn’t shown anything to me to show that he can coach. I also know significantly less about hockey compared to my knowledge of the sports I have actually played and coached. We’ve won the NCAA before, so my expectations are a lot higher for that program.
These are my feelings. But, in the end, I want the teams to win regardless of who the coach is. If all of our teams go on to have impressive seasons, I’ll be thrilled.

I don't have much use for people like Antimob (the last protector of Mike Jinks) who seem to be part of or close to the athletic department. That department's incompetence shouldn't be debated. Don't care for people pushing for "content moderation"..that's just another way of saying you don't want to see viewpoints that differ from yours's. Hell...guest44 used to bug the crap out of me too...and then I started listening to the nonsense coming out of the mouth of HC Scot Loeffler. Guest is right...dude's a loser

I'd settle for people not telling me to shut the f**k up.
And not telling others to screw off.
We should be better than that kind of trash.

He baits people then acts like he’s so much better when you respond to it. This thread has been pretty insane.
In general, people could be a lot nicer around here. There’s far too much in the realm of name calling and personal attacks.
We should act like adults here and move forward.

I read the subject and seeing it had run to 4 pages of comments, I knew what it had become. It reminds me of the movie Major League when Indians' fans sitting in the front of the teepee argue if the ball was a home run. "Too High?..... Not too high, too hard" ......and then the voice of reason, "Who gives a sh!& it's gone."

I didn’t know I had the power to shut down inane conversations. I shall now use this great power judiciously!
