D-line blowing up the running game quite a bit.

Camden Orth #12, transfer from LIU, is QB for 2nd team early in scrimmage. Hiliare #1 caught a TD pass from him.

Perfect weather. Town is packed with youth soccer tournament. We are low on healthy O lineman from what I heard, so todays o line -line up may not mean much there.

Low on healthy bodies and also lacking some/all of the guys we’ve gotten from the portal this spring as well, right?

I would say we looked solid, efficient. Not much to report from a scrimmage/practice. I didn’t see a lot of drop off from QB1 to QB 3, which is a first for me.

Wow, Melton being in the portal is a shocker to me. I figured he was set up to be a 2-3 year starter here.

Best of luck to them. Liked Melton's size but mentally he just never could figure it out. VanGorder was a starter last year so obviously he lost his spot.

Stewart is the one guy on offense that I think can be a All-MAC type player. I would be building my offense around getting him the ball 20+ touches a game.
I joke about QB1’s throwing motion all the time, but it is an issue on screens and quick throws off the line. It takes him so long to get the ball out, the defense can recover even if they are fooled a little.
I think the offense will struggle to be anything but avg to below avg, even with better line play.

Getting Keller and Melton in the same class and then neither of them doing anything here… that’s rough.

Happy to hear about Orth’s development, though. He has 2 more years of eligibility after this fall. Hopefully he and Owen Bainbridge continue to develop this year and have a good battle next spring/summer.

I haven't seen stats yet. But if Orth was good enough to play second string and lead to Melton transfering, that's a good indication for the future.

Loeffler said the line run blocked better than pass blocked. I'll take that as a sign of some line improvement given run blocking much of last year being what it was. RB depth is as good as anytime recently. Defensively 2021 was such a massive improvement over 2020 save a few dud games and nearly everyone returns. This should be a competitive team but still not a complete team as I won't believe there will be an explosive pass offense until I see it.

After the game, Matt McDonald and Scot Loeffler both spoke of improvements along the offensive line with the Sentinel-Tribune.
