Re: Spring 2022
So we head into the season with a QB with a history of injuries who knows the system and the only back up with game action just stated learning the somewhat complex offense this spring.
Already sounds a tad ominous

Re: Spring 2022
Everything is always so much better in spring and preseason. Doesn’t mean anything until the season starts and BG has to play real opponents. If BG had a new QB and brought in a new play caller, I think there would be some realistic reason for optimism and expectations for 6-7 wins.
Currently there is just a blind faith that the O-Line is going to be so improved that the offense is going to be productive. I think that is a big leap and the only reason there is even a 1% chance at 6 wins is it’s the MAC.

Yeah. Recruiting is probably a bit of more of a crapshoot than we like to think, especially at our level. (Perhaps it is different for a program like Alabama, which basically can pick any player it wants.) Even so, it's a bummer to see Loeffler and his team miss twice like that.
We've had some misses on the offensive line, too. Some of this is probably normal, but given the scope of this rebuild, we don't have a huge margin for error.
Good point. Maybe Loeffler has finally found his guy for 2023 and 2024. Orth has to be thrilled to have the chance to start in FBS.
It will be interesting to see where Melton ends up and whether he thrives there. It has often been said our offense is a bit more complex than most. Was that a factor? I guess we'll see based on where Melton goes and how he does.

I wouldn’t buy your bowl ticket flights just yet based on the O-line acquisitions….. there is Tony Mandarich 300LBs and Rosie O’Donnell 300LBs…..

Even so, I do have my passport ready, just in case the Bahamas come calling.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 12:24 pm I wouldn’t buy your bowl ticket flights just yet based on the O-line acquisitions….. there is Tony Mandarich 300LBs and Rosie O’Donnell 300LBs…..

That's a lot of new pieces to fit into the OL from fall practice to the start of the season..and with a new back up to bootroguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 12:24 pm I wouldn’t buy your bowl ticket flights just yet based on the O-line acquisitions….. there is Tony Mandarich 300LBs and Rosie O’Donnell 300LBs…..
Are we sure Orth had passed Melton on the depth chart...or are we just assuming that's why Melton left?

The Blade examines Bowling Green's special teams and ... finds no clarity at all.

The Blade is wrong on most everything they write about, other than the box scores of what actually happened.

Re: Spring 2022
Most of their columns are typically just quotes and the author providing context (usually includes their opinion). Given the lack of resources with the paper it's not entirely surprising.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 1:51 pm The Blade is wrong on most everything they write about, other than the box scores of what actually happened.

The Blade's coverage sucks...they soft pedal everything. Except Briggs

In my experience, most rank-and-file Blade reporters try to get their facts right. But of course some are more experienced or sophisticated or insightful than others.
I guess my point here is that we were awfully spoiled with Nate Needham and Matt Naranjo. I'd hate to see us regress too much here.

Re: Spring 2022
My dad was gainfully employed by the paper for 40 years so my opinion is a bit skewed. They've lost good sports columnists (Hackenberg, Autullo, etc.) the last several years due to downsizing and the Blocks refusal to provide any pay increases. Besides Briggs, most of their columnists now are pretty cookie cutter and largely inexperienced. It's no surprise the content they provide has suffered.

My sister and her husband were long time Blade employees....the newspaper's quality has definitely declined over the years

Ben Morse has been hired as the director of strength and conditioning. Previously spent three years at Iowa in an assistant S&C role.
