North Dakota’s Ashton Calder, formerly of LSSU fame, is playing his final season of eligibility at Penn State.

D Hunter Lellig from Minnesota-Duluth is transferring to BG for his final year of eligibility. He’s appeared in 98 career games in college.

Not a huge point producer, but a consistent player in the NCHC with real tournament experience. Seems like a great pickup.

6 points and 6 penalty minutes in 41 games last season. And a +7. That's a good right handed D pickup.

Wow, that's a great pickup. Sounds like a good stay at home guy which the roster desperately needs. Be great if he can eat minutes.

I hope he doesn't learn from the team to "improve" his penalty minutes. BG was third last season. (Unexpectedly to me, Bemidji was 19th, which is 15-20 places higher than usual.)

Mel Pearson is technically unemployed. My theory is he goes a couple weeks without a contract as punishment for the program issues. Extension announced soon.

If that’s the case for Pearson, will they be required to release the findings of their investigation or will his unemployment allow them to escape that on a technicality?

Any "extension" will be retroactive to the expiring of his contract. If they sign him to a "new" contract, with a break in pay, they will probably try to claim the unemployed technicality. In today's world, that's a risky road to take.

You could FOIA the investigation findings, right?

Jeff Blashill is available...not much success in Detroit, but he didn't have a lot of talent to work with. Had some success in college, the AHL and coaching the US Men's team.

I could see him getting a HC in college if he doesn't want to stay in the NHL as an assistant

Both Big Ten openings in the state of Michigan have to at least give him a phone call, right?

I’ve always thought there was a chance he ended up at Ferris State if things worked out with timing.

Doubt he ends up in college. He probably has enough contacts to find a job at a minimum in the AHL. He'll be an assistant for the US at the IIHF World's in a couple weeks too.

Pearson’s contract just automatically continues until either side breaks the contract. He would be paid the same salary from the most recent year until a new contract/salary is agreed upon. Depending on what is negotiated if he were to get a raise, UM would just give him back pay for the time he worked under the old salary. If he takes a pay cut, they wouldn’t get the money back they already paid.
I could be wrong, but I think they would have gotten rid of him already if they were going to head that route. Assuming they are just making sure every possible scenario is covered when the investigation findings go public.
Unfortunately in today’s world if you are accused of misconduct, even if it is frivolous and/or you are innocent, you still may lose your job because everyone constantly just wants to cover their own ass.

Illinois announced they will not be fielding a D1 hockey program, citing lack of financial support.
