Offseason 2022
Re: Offseason 2022
I know the Walleye weren’t real keen on sharing any revenue from the games played. BG basically lost money just by scheduling anything up there.
The opponent is the key. Michigan, MSU, OSU would be good draws. You’d definitely have to make sure you were getting the revenue to make it worth it.

I remember a time when the Blue Jackets mascot made an appearance of two at a game in the Ice Arena. I can't remember the Walleye doing the same. And I'm not sure the athletic department knows how to advertise outside their own venues.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 2:19 pm
I think it could work with the right marketing and planning. I simply don't trust the athletic department in it's current state however to be able to execute such a thing. It would just be nice to even see a BGSU hockey advertisement during the intermission of a Walleye game, or something in the arena to increase exposure of the program. What could it hurt? Just silly to me more isn't being done to try and capitalize on that.
The only hope for decent attendance at the Regional in a few years is at least one of BG, SCUM, or maybe MSU being in attendance. Notre Dame and Miami were both there last time and that place was empty.

Re: Offseason 2022
And, as has been said, these are the kind of opponents we'd probably rather keep in Bowling Green for regular season play.
I thought BGSU (and the Walleyes I suppose) were on the right track by trying to put one game up there over the holidays with an ordinary opponent on a day when people aren't going to be inclined to be in Bowling Green for hockey anyway (such as over a holiday break). Perhaps create some kind of doubleheader with the Walleye.
Wasn't this more or less what Bowling Green was going to do a couple of years ago with Robert Morris before the pandemic hit? I honestly can't remember if the game was played or not.
Anyway, that's probably the best way to use that arena. One game a year, perhaps against a Michigan CCHA school. (Maybe that could be marketed to Detroit-area alumni of that school as an easier way to see the home team than driving all the way up to Big Rapids or the U.P., although maybe that's a stretch.)
Re: Offseason 2022
Robert Morris was the Winterfest outdoor game played in the rain. RIT was scheduled to play in the outdoor game in 20/21 season, before that got blown up.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 5:10 pm

Re: Offseason 2022
Nate Leaman took a contract extension at Providence, so he's out of the running for the BC job, His name has come up for some NHL openings too.
All signs pointing to Jay Pandolfo becoming the coach at BU, and Greg Brown getting the job at BC. Would conclude the carousel for the offseason.
CCHA also announced that the conference schedule will be announced today at 3pm.

CCHA league schedule dropped and it appears there is no road trip to Bemidji this year!! Beavers travel to the Slate, but we don't go to the Sanford Center. We have home-and-home series with the other 6 teams. We travel to Northern to open the season on Oct 1.
We also have 14 league home games.

Re: Offseason 2022
Visit the Mavs the final weekend of October and host them the second weekend in December. Only three road conference series after December 1st. Hopefully that bodes well. Non-con looks likely to begin October 8-9.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 3:04 pm CCHA league schedule dropped and it appears there is no road trip to Bemidji this year!! Re: Offseason 2022
A little odd that BG and Northern play at least two weeks before other CCHA teams. Also 2 open weekends between BG-NMU and our next games against MnSU. I assume they'll be filled with non-conference games. I'm happy we don't have to travel to Bemidji during regular season. We like Bemidji, don't like the miles.
Also, we're scheduled at Tech again during their Winter Carnival. Lots of luck trying to get a room then.

Re: Offseason 2022
The league did the “early start with one series” thing this past season with St. Thomas and NMU.
And it looks again like the Mankato series will be played with students on break.

Been watching the Walleye on Flo, Brandon Hawkins has been a scoring machine for Toledo. Sad that he moved on to Northeastern.

Mark Friedman scored tonight for the Pens. Have no idea the last time a former Falcon scored in the playoffs. Rob Blake?
