Great example is Ohio State agreed to play us last year then opted for their home game to be on a Thursday (work night for most) causing fewer Falcon fans to travel, knowing on a Friday at BG their fans will travel to BG, causing about a 60/40 split in fanfare for a BG home game. Don't be surprised if these shenanigans take place again with bigger schools.
The Big Ten Network may have something to do with scheduling Thursday games. Saturday home football games also may play in those scheduling decisions.

Crowds do factor into scheduling in terms of avoiding certain nights with students on break or other events nearby. I can assure you coaches aren’t putting that much thought into trying to play games certain nights to prevent opposing fans from traveling.
To be honest that is pretty silly. BG fans don’t travel all that well anyway. There is a consistent group that is always there for support, but it isn’t like 1000 BG fans are hitting the road every weekend.

Honestly it's one of the best non-conference schedules in several years. All driveable road games against regional programs. Really excited for the season.

CCHA is announcing expansion plans tomorrow.

Lindenwood and Augustana are the rumored teams in contention, but we’ll only be adding 1 member to bring the conference to 9.

Hopefully it's Toledo.

I laughed out loud.

My guess: Augustana. They seem farther along, and I remember the CCHA Twitter account tweeting at their Twitter account when they announced the launch of the hockey program, so I feel like this has been on the conference's radar for some time now. But who knows, really.

I'm holding out hope for Miami State. :-)

Further along? Lindenwood takes the ice in 5 months, with games against D1 competition.

I didn't realize that. Thanks for setting me straight.

I wonder what the vote was (unanimous?) and whether travel considerations are part of the deal.

That said, ESPN is saying it will be Augustana.

Augustana is all in on hockey so I'm okay with this. I doubt the conference would have added a program that's equivalent to UAH or the Alaskas.

I just realized there are no Atlantic Hockey teams on the schedule this year.

Miami State has 4 games with AH.

Minnesota State opens with Minnesota, UMD, and St. Cloud prior to hosting BG in late October. Talk about murderer's row.

It's official, Augustana is in. I'm less than thrilled. Another tiny, unknown, DIII-like startup with no history whatsoever that won't move the needle one bit at the Slate. Why couldn't we give them a few years as an independent to let them prove themselves?

Edit: Wouldn't surprise me to learn membership was already a given when they announced their program/arena.
