One of America's Great Newspaper's is talking about the possibility of Scud hockey.

However, according to the article, it doesn’t really sound like UT is officially all that interested in it, so it’s mostly just fan fiction from Rowland there.

Another part missing consideration from that article - not all Walleye fans or hockey fans in Northwest Ohio/the Toledo area are Rockets. In fact, I would bet there are more that identify as BG alumni or BG hockey fans.

I made sure to use "possibility" in the same context as the tweet. Agree it's doubtful. I have high school friends that are totally into the Walleye but could give a crap about college hockey of any kind. I suppose BG/Toledo at the Huntington Center would be a big draw, but no way anyone is showing up for Bemidji at UT.

ECHL and College Hockey are two totally different animals. Eliminate dropping the gloves in the E, and fan attendance will drop 50%.

UT would have to build an arena or make Savage convertible for hockey. Either option is horribly expensive. Their ACHA club team plays a majority of their home games at Tam 'O Shanter in Sylvania which would easily qualify as the worst rink in college hockey if UT made the jump. Them making the jump to D1 is slim to none, and slim just left town.

Hoping I didn't ruffle any feathers, TUPD. I think it would be interesting, but like you said, highly skeptical.

This post here made me think about our Ice Arena's renovations. Anyone know if those are still on the table at all? I thought the idea of finishing the open end was very intriguing, but I can't remember the last update we got on those plans.

No feathers were ruffled during the making of this film! I just didn't want people to think I was counting down the days to Scud D1 hockey. Agree with everyone it isn't happening. I thought it was an interesting topic for the group.

I know this isn't happening, but hypothetically, couldn't they play at the Huntington Center? I don't see why they couldn't make a deal like Mankato or Bemidji.

They couldn't make a deal like that because Mankato and Bemidji are the main attraction at those arenas. The Walleye are going to get first dibs on the schedule.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

Miroslav Mucha, formerly of LSSU, entered the portal after the 4/30 deadline, appealed to the NCAA, won, and is now with Sparty.

Sparty will be much improved. LSSU, not so much.

Edit: He may have been a grad xfer.

More money to be made hosting concerts and the like than an upstart D1 program getting a few hundred people on a weekend while the Walleye are on the road.

Speaking of the Walleye, it's now Connor McDonald's turn to face them worth the Utah Grizzlies.

Ice Arena renovations circa 2022:
The latest public information was in an article in the Sentinel-Tribune on 3/5/2022:

Code: Select all

https://www.sent-trib.com/news/ice-arena-project-heating-up-stalled-by-pandemic-slater-renovation-plan-restarted/article_450d411c-9c89-11ec-beda-5f7dee871c6e.html
Basically, all options are being rebid, and based on the bucks, decisions will be made as to prioritizing the options. Large (>$25K) donations are being solicited. Moose wants to have firm numbers so individuals can decide if there's a certain project they want to fund.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

The NCAA has granted two changes to hockey. The 1st one allowing full practices to start a week earlier than previous. This means games no longer will start the same day as full practices. The second is something that should have happened a long time ago. NCAA teams can now schedule exhibition games against each other. This means it is now possible to schedule a game against a team like Adrian, and it not count in PWR or against total number of games.

I imagine this means we will be seeing less of the likes of Windsor or Western Ontario in Bowling Green, right?
