Colors
In 1914, Dr. Homer Williams, the University's first president, gathered a group of people, including Dr. Leon Winslow from the industrial arts department, as a selection committee for the school's new colors. On a trolley ride to Toledo, Winslow sat behind a woman wearing a large hat adorned with brown and orange feathers. He was so interested in the color scheme that his committee recommended to the board of trustees that they approve the combination of burnt orange and seal brown.

When I arrived in BG in the late 80's BeeGee Bookstore, SBX and the little bookstore in Saddlemire were all selling more blue, green and red lettered grey sweatshirts than orange or brown sweatshirts. Using either orange or brown is a bonus to me. Orange is the color that is more appealing to recruits apparently and that's all that matters.

Re: New Court
Who said recruits like orange more than brown? I don’t think that is necessarily true. BG uses way more orange because brown is a special order thru Nike and costs more money. That’s the real reason, at least for apparel.FalconTurf wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 6:23 pm When I arrived in BG in the late 80's BeeGee Bookstore, SBX and the little bookstore in Saddlemire were all selling more blue, green and red lettered grey sweatshirts than orange or brown sweatshirts. That was a late 80's thing that kinda came out of nowhere.FalconTurf wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 6:23 pm When I arrived in BG in the late 80's BeeGee Bookstore, SBX and the little bookstore in Saddlemire were all selling more blue, green and red lettered grey sweatshirts than orange or brown sweatshirts. I grew up in town. There were some grey sweatpants of hoodies around. Then all of a sudden EVERYTHING was blue with white or grey lettering. Like, WHAT? How does that relate at all? Finding orange or brown was close to impossible. Everything was blue and grey or grey and blue. Sometimes white lettering instead.
Was a very odd few years in terms of color availability.

Of course it's bright. OF course it's loud. It's fu**ing Orange. It's SUPPOSED to be bright, it's supposed to be loud. And these are Great things. When talking about uniforms (and hell, my own wardrobe half the time) bright and loud are the best attributes. I want flash and sizzle. Brown looks great on the crust of my steak, but it's fugly on clothes.BleedOrange wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 10:08 am (okay, let's argue over colors - it's May and there's nothing else to talk about)
hammbone, we're gonna disagree all over town on this one. Our shade of orange is bright and loud. We use way too much of it in giant splotches. The way we use it is hard on the eyes. We should have a lot less of it.
Obviously those that say things like, "It's hard on the eyes" and "it's loud" in a negative connotation will NEVER see eye to eye with me when it comes to uniform colors/design. I'll leave you with photos of my favorite unis ever and just know we will never agree because I'm sure these are all too loud for ya'll

Re: New Court
This is the gold standard of BGSU football uniforms right here.

I'm also quite down with the hockey Tootsie Roll look.

I guess if the basketball teams want to stick with orange, I mind less. They don't seem to have much tradition wearing brown, although I admire the effort to do that in recent seasons.
As for the court: I like the Ohio silhouette. It feels like a subtle push back on the marketing excesses of that four-year university in Columbus, and I'm all for that.
Re: New Court
I love the solid brown top….I think brown or orange pants both look good with the orange helmet. That is a great looking BGSU uniform.

Re: New Court
What bugs me is when the bball team wears a black uniform with orange trim. Like, where the hell did BLACK come from?
Yes, black is edgy and powerful and all the cool kids are doing it.
Don't care.
We are not the Cincinnati Bengals. We are not orange and black. We are orange and brown.
Going back to 1976 when I started attending games, we've barely used brown. It was white for home (orange trim always, brown with it sometimes) and orange for the road (white trim with it, brown sometimes).
But black?
GTFOH.

Black (and gray) are strictly for recruiting because kids think it looks cooler than brown. That’s the only reason for it.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 7:01 pm What bugs me is when the bball team wears a black uniform with orange trim. Like, where the hell did BLACK come from?

I love the orange and brown. But I’d wear pink and purple if it was going to help us win games - now it’s time for the coaching staff to figure out how to stack Ws.

Re: New Court
The outline of Ohio at center court is a nice touch, and actually ties into the Ohio patch on one of the shoulders of the hockey team's jerseys.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: New Court
The court was designed by BG Athletics in-house designer, Mallory Hiser. She has done really terrific work with her branding and design on uniforms, ads, social media, etc. And she's a BG grad! Props to our graphic design program, and props to athletics on keeping such a big project internal.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:08 am The outline of Ohio at center court is a nice touch, and actually ties into the Ohio patch on one of the shoulders of the hockey team's jerseys.
