2022 Softball

MAC Tournament starts here shortly with BGSU against Miami. Also, Gottshall was named pitcher of the year this morning, deservedly so. She was 23-10 with a 1.32 ERA and a school-record 325 strikeouts in 212 1/3 innings and also threw two perfect games. One of the more dominant seasons by any BG athlete, ever.

Bowling Green defeated Stephen F. Austin 7-3 in game one of the National Invitational Softball Championship. They play Virgina tomorrow at 10:30 eastern in the double elimination tournament. Gotshall set the BG career strike out record. She is a sophomore.

On Sunday, BG lost to #1 seed Virginia 10 -2. Today, #9 BG eliminated #5 seeded George Washington 5 - 3. Tomorrow, BG will play #12 seeded Kansas at 10:30 am in an elimination game.

Head Coach Sarah Willis was hired away by Bradley this morning, which was unfortunately followed by superstar Payton Gottshall entering the transfer portal. Payton has two years of eligibility left and already holds the record for strikeouts, perfect games, strikeouts per 7 innings, and was in the top ten in just about every other pitching category there is. Hopefully she sticks around but I have to imagine her phone will be blowing up pretty quickly from some big programs.

Payton Gottshall committed to University of Tennessee today for her last two years. Going from my school to my wife's.

I think she would have stuck around had her coach stayed. They players all seemed to love her.

Then again, maybe the coach saw the writing on the wall of her best player (and potentially best player in BG history) transferring up after the season and that's why she took the next opportunity. Hard to tell.
