My takes

See you all in a few months or whenever...
You've been a delightful smartass lately. I'm sorry to hear that you're leaving, and I do hope you change you mind.

INSTITUTIONAL PROBLEMS: Bad facility, obnoxious parking situation, apathetic fan base, low pay - all of these make BG a relatively unattractive coaching situation. However, Kent's situation isn't much better overall, not is the lot of many other mid-major programs that have been at least as successful as BG. Furthermore, they don't explain the frequent transfering of good talent or DD's thickheaded refusal to use depth and zone defenses. I have mixed feeling on whether I'd want DD to leave.

KREBS DOING THE CHOOSING: Well, frankly, if Krebs is soon leaving then we DON'T want him picking the next coach. We want an AD with a vested interest making the decision. If Krebs selects the coach while he's preparing to leave, his heart won't be in it and he won't be around to take responsibility for the decision. If an AD is worth hiring, then he should be qualified to select a coach, shouldn't he?

I really think Dan has 2 years left on his contract...

When he returned from W.Va, he got 5 years... that was 3 years ago, no?? Five minus three equals two...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I'm Wright... watch me drive the lane...

I guess I would have to agree with this. I was basing my reasoning off of the Urban Meyer higher. But that may be a once in a teams history kind of thing. It may be unreasonable. And I imagine a board of some sort gets input on who is hired and they most likely have a blueprint they would want to follow to try to find that next Urban.

I stand corrected (and take the charge). He does have two years left. I think that's a fair amount of time to make an evaluation.

The current setup of the team would leave me to beleive you give him a pass next year and if they are still bad with not marked potential for improvement the year after then let him go. Let him finish out his contract. He seems like he might just need a rest to come back energized. I would love to see him invest some time in geting the student population and surrounding area to games the way Meyer did.

After reading this thread, I think we all need to take a good hard look at the movie "Fastbreak". Here we have Gabe Kaplain (Dakich) in a small Nevada university (BG) with a poor facility (BG), poor parking (BG), poor fan base (BG) and questionable recruiting (BG, according to some). What Mr. Kotter was able to establish under these circumstances is quite amazing. He is able to get a game against the number one team in the nation to get his school some recognition. So, this is what I propose based on this movie:

1. Make Dakich grow a beard.
2. Replace our scoreboard with one of those red and green flip number scorekeepers that is used at your typical 3-year old soccer games.
3. Recruit a girl that has to use an Ace bandage to hide her boobs. She will then become the best player on the team.
4. Have the team eat Fitch's pot.
5. Play a game at Illinois this year.

The similarities between BGSU basketball and Fastbreak are endless. If we just do as Gabe did, we are destined for success and do not need to do anything to improve the program. We can keep Dakich. We can keep Anderson. We can have shitty parking. We can recruit preachers, women and hustlers. Then, all of the world's problems will be solved and we will be in the NCAA. Trust me. I was an RTVF major. I know this stuff.

Dakich Move on?

Post by Markp »

There were 9 teams 2 games apart and look out it went at the Gund. I think it would be a poor move to let Dakich go.

At this point, I don't know that I care much about the NCAA anymore. I just want to win so AA goes back to being "the house that roars", and not "that shithole". Seriously. We win some games and its the greatest place in the world. Lose a couple and we need to tear it down and move into a shiny 10,000 seater by the next home game. This will likely start a big circular discussion of "yeah buts", but the team doesn't miss shots or throw passes away because of the building they're in.

Yeah, but, if we had those big shiny basketball standards like the big arenas have, we would make more of our shots than we do with those old permenant ones. Plus, we could switch out broken backboards quicker.

I was watching the World Poker Tour the other night and one of the finalist was none other than Gabe Kaplan. He looked realllllllllllly bad, like death warmed over, but not that good. He finished third and when he got up, he was wearing shorts with his long sleeve button down shirt. NOT a pretty site.
