Times are changing, and BGSU needs some change in leadership quickly.

Bob thinks our Michigan heavy staff obviates the need for an NIL program...if it works in Ann arbor...

Well...it appears that UM DOES have an NIL program in place,...what's you excuse now, Moose?

It seems that BG is more concerned that NIL money will go to athletes and not toward sponsorship of BGSU athletics, with a huge Learfield cut taken out. You know Bob the fundraiser, being a terrible fundraiser.

This is still kind of murky waters. Moose can't really have anything to do with establishing something like this. It needs to be wealthy donors who decide to form an NIL collective, not the athletic department. The only input the athletic department can really have is helping them make sure they don't break the rules. I'm no fan of Bob so far, but no AD is going to come out and say, "Hey, we need a bunch of people to donate money that we won't see a dime of!" The university I am currently working with is lucky enough to have a former pro league commissioner as an alum and they lead the charge in forming their NIL collective. It's pretty complicated and schools with less wealthy alumni bases are going to be behind the curve.

I can assure you Kit Hughes, when he was still at BGSU, was doing very little work to move NIL forward at BGSU. Actually he was doing the opposite to keep control.

Truly no idea how that applies here. Like I was saying, the administration is pretty handcuffed on what they can really do with this other than provide support and compliance guidance to those who choose to form something like an NIL collective.

I'm not sure what the rules are for conference involvement, but if they're able, I think the MAC should establish their own NIL collective to have a larger conference wide pool of corporate sponsors. I think they could sell the #MACtion brand well and get a lot of interest from Midwest businesses.

I understand what you are saying. Have you heard of anything BGSU has done to assist athletes in NIL since July of last year? I know of one situation where Hughes tried to kill a story being done regarding a BGSU athlete and NIL.

Seems like their Athletic Office is pretty involved…..
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

NIL seems to be the name of the game now. The good ones will get paid somewhere, so Moose needs to help our athletes take advantage of the opportunity. Otherwise all our sports will slowly become yearly cellar dwellers. Players win games.

Better question, does he know how to respond. It’s been almost a full year to get NIL moving at BGSU. They have done little to nothing more than trying to deter it so far. He did start following @INFLCR on Twitter yesterday. But, he also said last July that they would be working with them so who knows.

I know where he he stands on NIL. He wants to control it. He allowed Kit Hughes to contact local media in an attempt to kill an NIL story. Information he and Hughes obtained through the athlete and compliance. It’s not a coincidence BGSU is miles behind Toledo just like it is on the field in major sports. He will give you the usual excuses of under staffing and Covid. It’s protocol for the incompetent.
