I had a similar experience awhile back. Our complex manager was fired, but he prevailed upon mgmnt above him to allow him to go out on his terms...take a couple of days to clean up loose ends, say goodbye, bow out gracefully yadda yadda. When week two of the farewell tour was coming to a close, they finally told him "STOP SHOWING UP! YOU'RE FIRED".

Moose is a nice guy but doesn't have the personality needed to excel at the role.Flipper wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 11:40 am I had a similar experience awhile back. Kingston was an idiot but he was outgoing and had high visibility, got people excited about the athletic programs. They need someone with that type of passion mixed with the fundraising acumen that Greg Christopher possessed.

Yeah, in retrospect, Christopher was a pretty good AD overall. He wasn’t an outgoing guy like Kingston, but Kingston turned out to be a complete buffoon. Christopher actually tried to run the department the best he could while working within the budget the president wanted him to work within. I know of at least one person on this board who will vehemently disagree, but Christopher was pretty good.

Jon Waters (former THE osu band director/known for creative marching formations) was hired to assist athletic bands at BGSU. Maybe the first domino in improving game day experience. A new AD needs to get rolling with this potential. Marketing can certainly run with some of his past work

Hardly worth a reply, but ……………….Christopher might have had some administrative skills, but looked out ONLY for himself, and a complete azz around many people.

Was Paul Krebs the last AD most people were good with?

Probably true, Flipper!
Re: This could be the best day in a decade for BGSU Athletics
I thought Krebs was a pretty good AD. TUrns out re-hiring Dakich was a poor choice, but he was also the guy that hired Urban, and I think he had the first Dakich hire as well?
We bitched back then about how long lines were for concessions and how we needed to outsource that rather than using youth orgs, but in retrospect now it's FAR worse. Back then the waits were ridiculous and the quality was crap, but at least they were cheap. They solved the wait issue by making the prices outlandish and still having crap quality...

Not sure what kind of administrative skill hangs the president out to dry in front of the hockey alumni.

Yeah, GC started right as I got to BG and couldn't have been less interested in the hockey program. He was also not great for a sport management student like me who was dying to work in collegiate athletics. I was able to have conversations with ADs at Duke, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami (FL), but Christopher was always too busy. Not that it reflects on his job performance, but selfishly, I wasn't a huge fan.

Re: This could be the best day in a decade for BGSU Athletics
Christopher was probably TOO concerned with the bottom line, while Kingston was the complete opposite. I honestly don't think Christopher hated hockey or didn't care about hockey; I just think he viewed dropping hockey as the best way to try & balance the budget. I'm not saying I agree with him; I just feel like that was his mindset at the time.
I would agree that Krebs might be the last AD that most people were good with, but he wound up resigning from UNM and being indicted, so I guess you never know.
One minor thing -- I THINK Dakich was here before Krebs. I feel like he was a Zwierlein hire when he (Dakich) initially came here.

Re: This could be the best day in a decade for BGSU Athletics
One of his "justifications" was the condition of the Ice Arena at the time. The same Ice Arena that had a renovation quietly canceled about the same time the lighting was installed at the Doyt. Not many people remember that part. He also tried to quietly get cutting the team on the agenda for the Board of Trustees, without any publicity. When the hockey alumni started asking questions to he and President Cartwright at the HOGO, he didn't have any answers, and hadn't provided any of the information to President Cartwright beforehand. Embarrassing for an administrator trying to make such a drastic cut. It's almost shameful he was able to thump his chest with the Bergeron hire. That's one he should have had to sit out completely (not saying Bergeron shouldn't have been hired. Simply Greg Fundraiser shouldn't have been allowed within 100 miles of that press conference.)threestooges wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 2:23 pm Christopher was probably TOO concerned with the bottom line, while Kingston was the complete opposite. BG making the NCAA tournament in hockey and winning 2 MAC titles in football are far better than this
