Simply an opinion. Makes no sense to me that Rogers would have been the one to solely let him go after approving Moosbrugger's extension within the last year or so. Doesn't add up to me.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 7:09 pmIf those were factors, I imagine President Rogers would have cited them more specifically. He did not.Critical Thinker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 5:49 pm I don't understand President Roger's statement.... Was he disappointed in the performance of the revenue earning teams? Did Moose's mismanagement of the baseball donation border on financial malfeasance?
The key phrase in that statement to me is "the need to increase and diversify resources." Rogers seems to be saying there that the revenue side of the department needs to improve. And, by "diversify," I think he's saying we need an athletic director who can get donors need to step up more.
(Improved ticket sales could also help, of course.)
On the baseball donation: If Rogers really blamed Moosbrugger for that situation, it seems to me he would have said something about it. But he didn't. He actually offered some praise for Moosbrugger's overall handling of baseball.
My sense is the real screw up probably happened years earlier, when (I imagine) the athletic department under Chris Kingston failed to properly document the terms of the Haas gift.
Well, that's interesting.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 5:56 pm I got the sense the move was made by the Board and not Rogers exclusively.

Re: Does anyone want Bob Moosbrugger?
Rogers wouldn't say anything in the statement on why he fired moose. It's always going to be a political answer and I wonder if we pay moose less if he finds a different job?
Re: Does anyone want Bob Moosbrugger?
There may also be legal reasons for not going into details. They couldn't get things to stick for a "for cause" firing, so he's being bought out. If they publicly go into details on that, and it prevents him from getting another job, he may have grounds for a lawsuit.
When donors look at the Haas money situation, and the public's view handling the Frack money, there's no more donations like that happening without a change. The department appears to be very good at "dotting I's and crossing T's" when it comes to donations. They fill the paperwork out correctly even if the money isn't going for what the donors originally had intentions. As in, the donation wasn't direct enough to not be misguided.

I think that after baseball alumni and friends of the program raised 1.5 million in a few weeks to save the program, 2-3 of very wealthy alumni reminded the President that Moose just wasn’t doing his job.

San Diego State welcomed Bob back with open arms earlier this month.

If by open arms you mean after the 6 months pay after being fired from BGSU expired.

Well yes, but from what I was told that was Bob's choosing.

Who cares? Just be glad he’s gone. He did a terrible job and was over his head from the start.

Of course it was, the BGSU AD pays more than whatever his title is now. It’s why he left in the first place. Had BGSU held up to its most basic qualifications for the AD position, Bob should have never been hired originally.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 3:48 pmWell yes, but from what I was told that was Bob's choosing.

Not as much of a drop as you’d think, though. He’s over 200k in his new role.guest44 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 7:29 am

Rogers had to 100%. Rogers would have likely approved the Huger Covid extension also. Rogers is part responsible for how it got here. His unwillingness to hold people accountable was a big issue. Then he panicked because of Covid. He had his justification for cutting Moosbrugger loose in 2019 with the gymnastics program. In reality both Moosbrugger and Hughes needed to go which I’m sure felt overwhelming. The strategy of recommendations for all the jobs Hughes applied for didn’t work and BGSU was stuck with him much longer than the favor Chris Kingston did bringing him to BGSU. The culture was about not making BGSU look bad and favors upon favors. That culture has cost BGSU a lot of money and frankly wasted so much time. Thankfully college athletics is filled with a pit of 14 million a year in student fees to be irresponsible with while carrying an ego.
