Looking forward to EKU

"My standing assumption is that a man who has been coaching Division I college football professionally for 25 years probably knows more play calling and personnel decisions than I do".
You also had the same standing assumption that Bob Moosbrugger was a competent AD. Bob was fired 3 days into the start of a new academic year with 2 full years left on his contract.

Jinks knows more about football than any of us. I would wager that statement is correct.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

No one in the media presses him on anything so I doubt he's going to voluntarily provide criticism about his own decision making. Someone definitely needs to question why in Year 4 the same issues are occurring, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Poor QB play, WRs running the wrong routes, that's all coaching. So why? And what's the plan to fix it? He ran his mouth about how well camp went, but between the intrasquad scrimmage and the UCLA game, nothing looks any different. There's plenty of evidence to support that he's been subpar. He has the exact same record Mike Jinks did when he was terminated. The covid and transfer portal excuses don't fly anymore. Every FBS program had to deal with those same challenges.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 10:41 amroguewarrior wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 10:22 am I’m still disturbed by the presser where he doesn’t get why there are breakdowns most plays. Huh.And maybe a couple of the Bong Teamers who fail in practice regularly, shouldn’t be out there, because you glossed them rock stars.

I continue to believe Mike Jinks was still a better football coach than Scot Loeffler. Could he build a program? Clearly not, he couldn't even hold together an already built program. Could he hire a worthwhile staff? Absolutely not, he didn't have the connections and pieced together a bottom of D1 staff with next to zero actual experience. Fair to say Loeffler is better in both duties of head coaching than Mike Jinks was.
But if I'm picking a coach to draw up some X's & O's and get guys to do the right thing on any given play?
I'll take my chances with Jinks, and that's pretty damned sad.
Loeffler has coached for 25 years and been somewhere between absolute crap and slightly above mediocre in every one of those stops. He's a bad coach. He's been a bad coach everywhere he's been. He was Peter Principled all the way to OC, failed and failed again, then STILL got a promotion. His career arc is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with coaching where guys get new jobs and even promotions not on their merits but on their connections. He has shown nothing in that 25 years to make me think he has a single innovative football idea anywhere in his brain. Sure, he probably forgets more about football that I'll ever know. But I'm not making a half million bucks to coach the sport. I believe unquestionably there are probably dozens of FCS head coaches making less than Loeffler that would make a better HC here.

Wow. I didn't read any further than this.

Mike Jinks took a defending MAC championship program and did this in Memphis the first month of his first season.
I don't know how it will turn out for Scot Loeffler here in Bowling Green. The next couple of weeks may tell us a lot, and the next athletic director might not care what he does. But it seems to me Loeffler has moved the program forward significantly. The defense and special teams were quite strong last weekend. The culture seems better. The offense might still come around. I'd be surprised if we see another full on debacle like that 2016 Memphis game while he is here.
Re: Looking forward to EKU
Meh, semantics. Those disastrous games, and Jinks failures, are largely attributed (by me) to being completely disorganized with the CEO portions of the HC role. Beyond that, as I mentioned above, zero experience on his staff so everybody was in over their head top to bottom. Loeffler is more organized and could leverage enough contacts to build a vastly more experienced/competent staff. I suppose that on its own makes him a better HC than Jinks. But if I actually wanted one of them to COACH? Meh.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 2:46 pmWow. I didn't read any further than this.

I guess to put it more succinctly, both Loeffler & Jinks are position coaches (maybe coordinators) that have been masquerading as head coaches here. I'll take my chances with Jinks coaching RBs over Loeffler coaching QBs.
In reality I'd be happy if neither of them were ever to step foot in Doyt Perry again, unless on the opposition's sideline.

Arguing who is better...Jinks or Loeffler... is like arguing over Pizza Hut vs Domino's pizza
They both suck and should be avoided at all costs.

Pizza Hut gets the nod due to the personal pans.
Silly argument, I'll say this much - Jinks has a nice feather in his cap for primarily developing Scotty Miller and recruiting Quintin Morris.

Would you like a Kesslers Old Fashioned or a glass of Carlo Rossi ?

While it's nearly impossible to do worse than the ass whooping in Memphis. This is and was totally pathetic too.

Man, I ordered PH a year or two ago just because we had a stellar coupon.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 3:44 pmPizza Hut gets the nod due to the personal pans.

It's best served to have fond childhood memories of the red plastic cups, pitchers of soda, and Book-It earned pan pizzas. The product I received didn't even bear a close enough resemblance to spark the nostalgia points.
Chain pizza is all awful. I'll go further, conveyer belt pizza of any sort can never move above mediocrity. Pisanello's is about the pinnacle of conveyor belt pizza, AFAIC, and it's I dunno..."OK?"
But yeah...they're both garbage. I'm just not convinced one piece of garbage is any less smelly than the other...

Anyone who argues that Jinks is a good coach needs to find a new hobby.

Re: Looking forward to EKU
Neither are good at being a HC. Loeffler has a long resume with a number of stops and no real success to point to. Still a mystery how he got hired with such a spotty record...essentially zero achievements.
Jinks was a pretty successful HS coach...but you can't really count that. Had a very limited history as an assistant at the college level before coming here and has continued to find employment after leaving as a position coach. I have no idea how anyone could think he was ready to coach a college team.
I really don't see much to distinguish one from the other... right now SL has the same record Jinks had here.
Let's hope the next guy is better

Re: Looking forward to EKU
For me the biggest disappointment of Loefflers time here so far was not building on the Minnesota game. What a great and unexpected win. What do they do? Go 2-6 and lose their next three including pissing away a lead vs Akron. By October that game felt more like a tease to me.

Apparently Saturday is a white out?! What genius came up with that idea? Not even a recognized school color. The disconnect knows no bounds.
