Rogue been around here long enough that his kid has to be a junior or senior. At this point I’d imagine he’d much rather the team be successful than lose just because he doesn’t like SL.

I thought it was a good win. How much it means will depend on how the season pans out. They beat Minnesota last year and were 2-2. Before we knew it they were 2-5 with all 3 of those losses to Mac teams. Probably a lot of skepticism that BG going play consistently good football.

It's Missouri time (show me) for nearly everyone on here. Marshall wipes out the EKU debacle. Most had BG 1-2 entering the game in Starkville so can't say we're off schedule. MAC play will determine the fate of the staff.

I truly don’t care if SL stays or goes at this point.
Your first reaction to Loeffler and his upsets:
I’d say it’s luck. Some good bounces of the ball, the wind, the refs, one missed tackle, etc to win those games, and lose to bottom feeders.
Not how hard the team plays, not preparation, not the home crowd, none of that. Luck. Invalidating the win. Again a parent of a player anonymously using this board as a platform to stab the coach in the back.
Totally out of context. It was a conversation on why we had managed big upsets and lose to others. I was there on the field celebrating with the team and coaches.
Yeah, that's how I read it. I didn't feel you were diminishing the win at all.

Looking at the MAC, I have to think the hottest seats are Loeffler, Linguist and Albin. Maybe Mike Neu if they have a bad season? He's never been able to string much together outside of 2020.

I’m glad this one Marshall anomaly amongst the stool pile this program has been since Babers got you so excited for the regime that the slightest hint of criticism of them has you ready to fight others on this board, but those of us in the real world who get a little irked by the continuous regional and national embarrassment the athletics program causes our beloved alma mater can’t walk with you on your chosen path.
Enjoy thinking you’re lucky just because BG even has a football team.
Others have a higher bar. Actually, most do. It’s why the attendance sucks.

You aren’t from southwest Summit County are you?

You’ve posted 35 times in 18 years on this board. Maybe cool it with the “you aren’t a real fan” accusations.

Just because you’re frustrated doesn’t give you the right to be a jerk to someone on here. We’re all frustrated and want to see the team do better, and we’re going to root for our guys until we’re told otherwise. But regardless, we’re keeping it respectful around here - period.

Maybe Candle as well? New AD, they've underperformed (for the most part) over the last few seasons, & posters on their message board seem to be very much against him. I personally hope they keep him forever because I don't think he's a good in-game coach at all.

Sounds like Geoff Collins may be on his way out at Georgia Tech.

This here. It seems like the bar for a lot of people around here is getting blown out by mediocre power 5 teams is what should be expected. You can find many posts supporting this before the 2 power 5 games. Sorry I’m not ready to be on this side. I’m possibly doomed to never be happy with the results but if BG can’t look like they belong on the field with perennial mediocre power conference teams then why even be fbs (Yes I realize they beat Minnesota a year ago). MSU probably going win 6 games. UCLA is 4-0 but has also played the easiest non conference schedule in all of fbs. Neither of these teams should carve you up like it’s 7 on 7. I don’t expect to beat them beat them but it shouldn’t look like varsity vs jv on most drives either.

This team shows flashes of being good but shows way more flashes of being bad through 4 games. We were given a timeline of what the team should like by year 4 and I don’t see how this is close to it.

I don't see anyone saying this. Certainly I am not.

I want to compete with Power 5 teams. That's the reason I booked a flight to Los Angeles this year. It's the reason I managed to see both of our Big Ten wins in 2015 (over Maryland and Purdue) in person. That's a reason I made a point of seeing the 2013 Motor City Bowl in person.

But I also accept that this program was so messed up under Mike Jinks that rebuilding it right is a process. Even according to Coach Loeffler's calendar (which he might not be on; we'll see how it goes in MAC play.), we were probably a year away from going into the Rose Bowl or Starksville and putting a win on the board.

I loved being able to scare the hell out of Mississippi State in 2013, but that was a Year 5 team, a MAC championship team. Coach Clawson's Year 4 team probably wouldn't have been able to do that.

Even if we are on that Year 4 schedule, I'm not sure we are coming home with wins in these Power 5 games. I guess that's where we disagree.

Did no one tell him about the win at Minnesota last year?

The program isn't where we want it to be right now, but Marshall isn't the only big win we've had.

Attendance for the last Bowling Green home game was 21,000+. That's a nice crowd, actually.

People being satisfied enough with a 6-6 record in yr four of a coaching regime to keep that coach around is practically the epitome of a lowered bar....moreso when you consider what was promised in yr four

Genuine question: What record should we have?

Kent State won the East last year at 7-5. In 2019, Miami won the East at 7-5. Same with Akron in 2017, 7-5 won them the East. With the way we schedule now, the days of winning 10 games are probably over around here. The MAC as an entire conference hasn’t had a single team win double digit games in a season since Buffalo in 2018. Winning 6 games puts you in the top half of the league more often than not nowadays, and that’s not something we’ve been in 7 years.

6-6 this season means we are very competitive and win a ton of MAC games, potentially even competing for a MAC East title. That would be a huge step forward, wouldn’t it be?

I’m trying to figure out what the expectations for our program should be moving forward when we’re playing 2 or 3 P5 games per year, because we probably aren’t winning those games, which shrinks our margin of error quite a bit. Thoughts?

We should be 2-2 non conference and 6-2 in the MAC. I can see losing to Kent and one of Toledo, WMU or CMU....maybe even two of them...so for me...8-4 is a good year...7-5 is acceptable...maybe. 6-6 or anything less. Nope. This is the MAC..arguably the worst conference in FBS. Going 4-4 or thereabouts is not something we should be good with

2-2 in the non-conference is somewhat fair (yes, we absolutely should’ve beaten EKU), but not every year. Next year, we’ll absolutely lose at Michigan and at Georgia Tech. We should beat Eastern Illinois. And the Liberty game will be a tossup, but being on the road makes that one tough. In 2024, we’ll lose at Penn State and at Texas A&M, we’ll beat Fordham, and we’ll have a tough tossup against Old Dominion. If you’re arguing that we need to be more competitive and win the tossup games more often, I’m absolutely with you. But we also somehow did that this year against Marshall, so maybe that means progress (if you can ignore the EKU loss, anyway)?

I’d be thrilled if this staff climbed from 0 wins in 2020 to 6 in 2022. That would tell me we’re moving in the right direction.

That said… this team has a lot of work to do if they want to win 6 (or 7, or 8) games this year. Gonna be tough, despite how mediocre the MAC is.
