Short arms. Terrible vertical. I wonder if he'll even matter in the MAC.

I vaguely recall hearing that his measurables were bad...looked it up. A 6-7 Wingspan when he's 6-9? That's not good. He also had like a 24 inch vertical...also really bad. That whole Ypsilanti Prep online school thing that they built around him was weird. He has a lot of talent...needs to develop a bit and see if he can add some bulk. I don't think he would have generated interest from as many schools as he did in HS and the portal if he was terrible.

There weren't a ton of schools that were all that interested. That's how you end up at a bad MAC program. His Dad is a marketer and was trying to drum up interest from other schools by listing schools the family was interested in . . . but no real offers were made by Illinois and Michigan.

Insider from UM board who originally had the EMU info several weeks earlier than the public announcement says Emoni and his camp have already told EMU that he's one and done.

Bates can shoot the ball...there's always a need for guys who can shoot the ball. He needs to focus on building competencies in other aspects of the game. His dad did him no favors with that "academy" they started. He would have benefitted far more from a stint at an established basketball academy like IMG where he could learn the game.

The situation in Memphis was a complete fiasco....and that definitely rubbed off on him. I can see him doing very well in the MAC if he stays healthy.

The kid to watch locally is Jerry Easter..he's a 6-4 SO SG from Toledo. Currently at Emmanuel Christian...per the Blade, he turned down an $800,000 from Overtime Elite to essentially turn pro as a HS junior. He was also offered a 100,000 NIL deal that would allow him to play and still go to college but he would have to reclassify to 2024 from 2025 because OE is HS Jr and Sr only.

Crazy...

BG was Easter's first offer when he was a sixth grader at Emmanuel. Just a hunch, but I don't think we'll be getting him.

Would not be shocked if he stays at Emmanuel for his sophomore year before heading to one of the national basketball factories. Bates was a much better shooter as a 9th grader, but Easter has a huge upside. I really hope this doesn't become another Bates fiasco.

Possible we may not see Mr. Bates after all.

His lawyer is claiming that it was a borrowed car and that someone else's gun was hid inside it. Maybe, Maybe not.

Bates is not a big enough deal to get anybody to be a patsy for him. He'd already be in the NBA if he was.

I htink he is about to disappear into the sunset and show up in a criminal blotter for something extremely violent and dumb in a few years.

I would LOVE to be wrong about that.

Bates is easily a 2nd round draft pick right now. That kid isn't going anywhere.

I'm very happy to see this. Any idea how his eligibility is affected for this year?
