There is much evidence to the contrary. Bowling Green has historically fielded one of the strongest football programs in the MAC. The Falcons have won two conference titles the past decade.notkithughes wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 3:12 pm I say it again, we do not have the resources to compete in football.

Don't disagree. Donors also aren't going to rush in and save the day when they see incompetent hires being made. Relationships have been strained over the last several years. BG has lost corporate and private donation money to UT. Now you have to compete to win those people back after years of mistrust and mismanagement. This kinda ties into the AD thread but whomever is hired for that job has a mountain to climb to get football back to being even somewhat treading water.notkithughes wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 3:12 pmI say it again, we do not have the resources to compete in football. Where is this money we supposedly have? Our football program has been a dumpster fire since 2016. Arguably the worst program in FBS. If these wealthy donors haven't ponied up yet, they aren't going to now.FalconTurf wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 10:10 pmI agree that they can get the money but in my scenario of contending those resources are not tapped in my opinion. If the team is 5-2 going into the 12th game with a shot at the MAC championship game is that not where we want to be? Lose it and finish 6-6 then fire the coach? I’m not sure that’s reasonable. Losing to EKU was horrible. Can low budget BG fire coaches based on one embarrassing loss? I don’t think so. There’s a lot of football to be played and I don’t think running the table in MAC play is the standard. 5-3 in the MAC would be a HUGE STEP in the right direction and personally I’d be satisfied.
Buying out the current coach is half the picture to me as well. Pay for the search and endow part of the head coach’s salary to sign someone new as well. This is the only path to consistency imo

You'd be surprised at how quickly the right hire can turn things around. I have witnessed first-hand an AD come in and double principal level donations ($1 million+) within three months, and the situation they came into was definitely not great.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 4:48 pmDon't disagree. Re: Coaching carousel
What you are saying is factually correct....my concern is that the paradigm shift that has occurred in college football will make getting our program back to that level may be impossible without a significant growth in expenditures, which is something we have an even longer history of not doingSchadenfreude wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 4:27 pmThere is much evidence to the contrary. I would find it hard to believe we couldn’t hire someone like Chrystal who Wisconsin will still be paying for four more years to come to a more chill environment and get back on track.

Prefer a younger coach with a fresh mindset and current schemes than one of the retreads who still play dinosaur 1990s football. Plus BG likely doesn't have the resources to lure anyone of name notoriety to come here. It's a bottom end MAC job with very little upside as things stand.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 8:53 pm I would find it hard to believe we couldn’t hire someone like Chrystal who Wisconsin will still be paying for four more years to come to a more chill environment and get back on track.

Re: Coaching carousel
I find it tough to believe there are even 5 jobs in fbs worse than the BG job. We do have more historical (even recent) success than moat of our conference but I'm not sure how much that really matters. A good chunk of our historic success was due in large part to the wealth of football talent in Ohio but the last time I saw the numbers Ohio has been one of the hardest hit states in terms of losing HS football athletes.
Resources and salary here are about as bad as they can get.
Obviously if you win here you can parlay it into more dollars elsewhere but that's true of any low end G5 gig. I believe the future will continue to show this is one of the more difficult places to pull that off.

Re: Coaching carousel
Recruiting in Ohio has changed as well. Out of area teams are hosting summer camps all over the nation and poaching whatever talent they can find, never less the usual haul that Ohio State, Michigan, and the like get. Add in a stronger Cincinnati program, Kentucky being relevant with a coach (Mark Stoops) who has Ohio ties and it's becoming more difficult to get talented recruits from the area. Last impact is more schools going FBS which equals more scholarships and more competition amongst the G5 for the table scraps.hammb wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 9:36 pmI find it tough to believe there are even 5 jobs in fbs worse than the BG job. It'll take someone creative and with a keen eye to succeed here if and when SL is let go.

We don't need resources if Wisconsin is paying him.

I would prefer a guy like Clawson or Babers...FCS HC experience, FBS assistant with P5 schools.

Re: Coaching carousel
Really disappointed seeing all these posts discussing other coaches in BG after the statement win against Akron. We are lucky Coach Loeffler chose BG as his personal and professional home. I guess wins aren’t good enough for some people. Let’s keep it positive.
