Let's worry about BG in Mount Pleasant next week.

Re: Beat Miami
I'm gonna get crazy and focus on the positives. The defense was fantastic today -- a few dumb penalties on the first drive of the day, but they were awesome after that.
We beat Miami -- I'm just gonna take a few hours and enjoy the fact that we beat Miami at the Doyt for once.

If I’m not mistaken we haven’t beaten them at home since 2012?

Totally Agree!mbenecke wrote: ↑Sat Oct 15, 2022 2:00 pm Why are we so opposed to fair catching a kick and taking it at the 25? Do we even know that’s the rule?
I get that we aren’t an explosive offense and we are trying for an explosive play, but it routinely results in us starting at the 15 yard line. And when the offense is already struggling, why not take 10 free yards instead of forcing yourself to go 85 to score?
This has driven me nuts for like 3 years now.
(Just watched a Tennessee kid bring kickoff outta the end zone...there’s a penalty for block in the back, they start on their own Five Yard line!).

Re: Beat Miami
The play calling seemed good. Creative, even. After the game, Loeffler said they put a bunch of new plays in and the team responded by learning how to execute them quickly.
The Falcons outplayed Miami today. More or less outmuscled them which was nice to see for a change. With only a few exceptions they seemed to contain the run and this Miami QB.
It would have been nice to win by more, but given that this was the preseason favorite to win the East, I’ll take it.

Re: Beat Miami
Great day to be a Falcon...still too many mistakes today but they showed heart and soul, unlike last week. Would the offense be better with Orth at QB? I'd still give that kid a shot this year. The D was very solid today. Anytime we beat Miami, it's a great day. Next week is a winnable roadie at CMU. Get a dub there and we're 4-4, 3-1 MAC. Beautiful day at the Doyt today...

Definitely a day to celebrate. Not buying in yet but these next 2 games are very winnable. The team has to take it one game at a time but if we can get to 4-1 in the Mac we'll be riding with confidence and momentum before those last 3 games
Going to try to make it to the game next week. Weather looks decent and general admission tickets are cheap

BG ended up with the 7th best net success rate yesterday. Basically 17-13 should have been 34-13. Get better offensive execution (a lot to ask for) combined with a consistent defensive effort (maybe not so much to ask for) and there can still be winnable games on the schedule.

Re: Beat Miami
I would add that I didn't think McDonald played badly. His worst throw was (thankfully) dropped in the end zone by a Miami defender. The one that was picked in the end zone -- I'm not sure what happened there. It definitely had a little air under it and took too long to get there. I wasn't in the stadium, but I wonder if the wind just caught it a bit.
After the game, Loeffler expressed regret for calling that play in the first place. He said he should have gone to another play instead.
It seemed to me drops were a bigger problem. These throws weren't always perfect, but they were close enough to be caught by FBS wide receivers.
The 30-yard (15 + 15) penalty in the first quarter was astounding. I can't remember the last time I've seen something like that happen. It felt like more of the same from this team at the time. In retrospect, though, I think we had a couple of close calls go against us. (I didn't think the C.J. Lewis block was that bad, for example.) It was a relief to have fewer procedure, false start and offsides penalties than before.

Re: Beat Miami
And the running game looked miles better than any game this season. I think Orth would add a lot to the O. He's big, 6'3", 230 or so, throws a real nice spiral and can run. He's physical. I don't know but I think McDonald might be hurting a bit now...he's been sacked a lot and beaten up. You can tell he doesn't want to run. And falcon Harold Fannin Jr....love this kid. Please start him every game.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 10:24 am BG ended up with the 7th best net success rate yesterday. Basically 17-13 should have been 34-13. One at a time for sure....next week is so very important to be ready as soon as the whistle blows. We need to see the consistency and build. Scot ain't outta the fire yet, but obviously we want him to succeed so BG wins. This is a big week and last 5 games for him. Time to prove it. But I'll take 2nd in the East right now. Beats the sheet outta last.

Three more wins for a bowl game. That would be really nice.Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 1:46 pm Scot ain't outta the fire yet, but obviously we want him to succeed so BG wins.
