ProFootballNetwork named Darren Anders as the 78th best player in CFB this season.
78) Darren Anders, LB, Bowling Green
The highest-ranked MAC player on PFN’s Top 100 College Football Players, Darren Anders flies around the field for Bowling Green. If he’s not making tackles in the backfield on run plays, he’s sacking or pressuring the quarterback. If he’s not dropping back and influencing passing lanes, he’s making plays on the ball. Anders does everything you’d expect a three-down linebacker to do and does it at an elite level.
When Anders was a freshman, he was always around the play, but didn't have the strength or experience to make the play. Now that he's older and stronger...he's another one of those Mitch Hewitt, Javon Burkes, Ted Piepkow guys that turned into really good LB's here
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Marshall's running back Rasheen Ali is out indefinitely after taking a leave of absence. Seems like it could be a mental health issue. First hopefully he is okay. However that is a huge loss as he led the country in touchdowns last season. Florida st transfer should take his reps and nobody is getting 25 touchdowns without a decent line so I think they will recover by week 3. I always want to beat a full strength team but I just want wins and I'll take whatever advantage we get
I didn’t feel like this information belonged in a game or MAC talk thread, but I thought it was important to post here.
Loeffler said in his presser this week that Matt McDonald may get another season of eligibility after this year. He has to apply for a waiver for them to essentially resinstate his transfer year that he had to sit out, but it sounds like it may actually be a real possibility that it happens. Not sure if Matt wants to stay for another year in college, but there’s a path to it, somehow.

Dude needs to get out into the workforce and book enough qtrs to earn Social Security...he's coming up on retirement age
Premature to talk about anyone coming back. Go 3-0 , SL stays…. 0-3 and new coach. Both alternatives mean different kids come and go. Worst case is obviously 0-3. McDonald isn’t coming back.

I'm thinking we go 1-2...what happens then?
We make a bowl game and Loeffler is extended.
Going from 0 to 6 wins in 2 years is pretty wild, considering how bad things have been around here. DVDM won’t rock the boat, Loeffler gets a short extension so he can continue to recruit and he’ll have a chance to prove he’s the guy. But if they don’t continue their upward trajectory, the short extension (perhaps with a flat/low buyout) will allows us to pull the plug and move in another direction.
Still gotta go out and do it, though. This program needs to do everything possible to end this season with some positive momentum.

I wouldn’t bank on a bowl game at 6-6. We saw Toledo get shut out a few years ago. It wouldn’t shock me if they took a more local 5-7 team over BG. If there are enough teams to fill all spots, BG is the first team not being invited. It’s disgusting that the sport is so watered down that 6-6 gets you a postseason. I remember in 2001 when 8-3 with wins over Mizzou and Northwestern, plus a thrashing of TSUN, wasn’t enough.

For sure. There are too many bowl games. 1994, BG is 9-2 with two losses by a combined 8 pts. sits home. One year Miami was 10-1 and sat home. 2001 and 2002 both...8-3 and 9-3 and we sat home. 2001 was one of the best years ever. We lost at defending West champ WMU, 37-28, defending East Champ Marshall, 37-31 and home to Miami, 24-21. That Mizzou game was an awesome beatdown. And we lost to tsun 51-17 in 2000 so 56-21 was so sweet revenge.

64 bowl eligible teams at the moment with 82 total slots, 78%. There are 20 teams who are one win away from getting there. 100% attainment is 84, which probably won't happen. The chances of BG going to a bowl game are pretty good by those numbers, if they can get a win tonight or next week.
