Wright State

Coming off a huge win at Louisville after losing their opener to Davidson in 2OT. They are a good and very well-coached team with a certified stud in Trey Calvin and a solid second option in Amari Davis.

Another really tough game on the road. We will have to play our best game to even keep it close.

Interested= piqued if we win this one tonight

I'm torn between "maybe curtis/ayers are finally just two guards that can create their own shots and make huger's so called offense work" and "air force was terrible/took a career night from Ayers to beat a down Oakland team" in terms of my general stance on the squad right now. I tend to be more optimistic and happy to lean more towards we might just be decent and surprise people this year.

I do understand the hesitancy to get behind this team as they currently stand. Limited shooters, questions in the post outside of Agee, stagnant offense, etc etc.

However, I will say. There has got to be something for winning a game holding a team under 60 then winning the next by almost scoring 90. 2 games in and at the very least I can say I am having fun watching this team.

I agree that I'll be intrigued if they can pull this one off tonight (I personally don't think they will), but it would also be classic Huger for one of his teams to pull of a win like this and then lose 5 in a row to inferior teams.

We're going to get beat by 30. WSU will lead by 18 at half. You heard it here.

I'm not ready to write off this team yet. That was a good win last Friday. We've seen Huger led teams win before, and there is a formula. If the way guys have played through 2 games is sustainable then the team may be sustainable. I think we all largely agree we don't like playing basketball the way Huger's teams play, but when he's had shooters that shoot, ball handlers that can efficiently create on their own, and rebounders rebound then this style DOES win. It puts a lot of onus on the players to individually beat the guys across from them, but through 2 games they're doing just that.

Can Matheny actually be a + shooter again? If so, that goes a LONG way in improving my expectations for this team. As a Freshman there was a stretch where he was single handedly winning us games. He kinda sorta did it again on Friday. Kaden Matheny shooting > 40% from three with the volume and range from which he shoots? That alone changes the outlook of the entire season. I've wanted to like him ever since that hot streak as a freshman, so I really want Friday to maybe be a step towards that player again and not just a blip.

Can Ayers continue to also be a + 3pt shooter?

Can Curtis continue to be primary ball handler and maintain 2:1 assist:to ratio (and actually getting good looks for his teammates, not some low volume 1-2a games)?

I don't pay much attention to roster building season, never have. I don't like the fluff of how highly touted people are, been way too burned by it. And I'm not "watching film" of HS kids trying to figure out who can contribute, just not my thing. But I genuinely like what Ayers & Agee can bring this team. Agee, especially, is a toughness around the rim that we haven't had in a few years. He's exactly the type of player I wish we could have put next to Plowden for years so we could let Plowden slash and shoot as a wing, rather than asking him to be a post presence as well. Towns is another newcomer showing a penchant for getting boards.

I'd have to go back and check but I don't recall doing well the past couple years on the glass. Right now we destroyed both Oakland and AF on the glass. If we can continue doing that it can go a long ways towards making this a better team than I expected.

This will be a good game to see there the Falcons are right now. This is a very good WSU team, even with one of their best players transferring to Ohio State in Holden.

Plus Grant Basile transferring to Virginia Tech where he's averaging 18ppg and 7rpg. If they had both of those guys on the team still we might be looking at a legit Top 25 team.

Following along online and it looks like Ayers was shot out of a cannon again. Lightfoot needs to get his fouling under control or he’s going to stop seeing the floor quick. Keeping it close in the first half so far.

Hanging in there on individual talent but Wright State looks like the superior TEAM in this one. Down 32-27 at half.

The length we have now sure makes defense easier but boy does Huger make offense look different.

We are playing damned good defense. Making enough plays offensively to keep it close.

Doesn’t really matter who we trot out there if we don’t run an offense. We don’t have talented enough players to play iso ball.

Taking Curtis out with 1:48 to go made no sense at all.

Faded late. Played better than expected but never really threatened to win.

I just don't understand why we don't TRY to do something on offense. It's just handing it to Ayers or Curtis and hoping they make plays.
