I just don't understand why we don't TRY to do something on offense. It's just handing it to Ayers or Curtis and hoping they make plays.
The sad thing is those guys can get to the rim at will but have a hard time finishing.

Anybody know why Ayers only played 27 minutes when he was 9 - 16 from the floor in that time, with 1 foul?

That’s a funny question. Have you ever been able to understand why Huger pulls the hot hand?

Couldn't watch or listen to the game. Guess the reason is "Coach is Dumb". But as I couldn't watch the game was wondering about fatigue or tweaking an ankle or something.

It’s 2022 basketball though. Run isolation for your best scorers and let them get it done. Hate it, especially as someone who grew up running motion sets but the “James Harden” offense isn’t a rarity anymore

Yeah well we ask them to be Lebron. Don't give them options at the rim or let them work around screens, it's nothing. Clear out and play iso... Every damned possession. We did run a couple pnr sets with Turner late to great executives, but then went back to just pure iso.

No doubt there is a lot of it at every level, but I watch the Cavs on a nightly basis and they run infinitely more offense with options for their facilitators than we do. And that's putting the ball in garland and Mitchell hands virtually every play.

And in the college level I don't have to watch much more than our own games. Our opponents run more plays and cuts for easy baskets before the first media timeout than we will the entire game

My late watch diary.

2 blocks Agee
I don’t mind Gabe O’Neal as a player. I do think he has a spot in a rotation that Huger hasn’t figured out yet. But, in what world is he our best guy to do the jump ball?
Agee is really smart
Towns is the first one in..O’neal out….never to be seen again?
Why does Curtis shoot when he doesn’t have his feet under him. Like it’s a race to shoot as fast as possible?
We are boxing out really well.
How do you get that many white guys on your team. This is nuts.
Do we have good D and scorers….what is this?
Metheny and Curtis. Take bad shots
Diarra is my favorite player. He is a monster. Very very raw for a senior. Cant catch. Collects himself every move he makes. Drops the ball all the time. They kept trying to feed him and it got stolen.
Why is Elsasser playing? He just got a good rebound.
I am liking Hugers rotations and coaching. I feel gross
I can tell immediately when Curtis or Ayers will shoot
Ayers new that they had a 5 on 4…was covered and went 1 on 1 and through up a terrible shot.
Metheny cant score at the hoop. Or from 3….Metheny can’t score
If Mills can be a solid backup that would really help
They are going to let Towns shoot 3s all night.
Its funny to listen to the color commentators…Dane Fife and whoever tonights guy was, be perplexed by our decision making the last few games…..Bowling Green has just decided to shoot 3s now…I am not sure that’s the right decision.
Often Transfers transfer because they wear out their welcome. You can see why Agee, Curtis and Ayers did that. Ayers and Curtis make bad decisions. Agee is grumpy all the time. They are also our best 3 players. If they grow up, which kids this age do, this could be very cool.
You know how they say…I really like X player because he does the little things so well. Ayers does the little things all wrong.
Did Lightfoot play? Why is Elsasser in down 6 with 4:20 to go. What is this?
These refs are homers

This is 100% true. You don't have to watch much college basketball. There are very few games where Huger looks like he's schemed anything better than the other coach.

Huger is out coached every game. His only hope is to out talent the other team and that is why we usually have a garbage schedule. I can think of only a handful of times we have been more talented teams. Those wins came by heroic individual efforts. He’s just simply a terrible coach.

I am not sure why I keep watching. I do like some of the players but I would be shocked if this team has a winning season.

The savior of the season might be Metheny if he can shoot the lights out. We need to drain a lot of threes for this team to be successful.

We have won the offensive rebound battle all 3 games this season which is nice to see.

Didn't really watch last night but it was closer than I expected. Looks like Lightfoot played a minute and got 2 quick fouls. Still should be playing over elsasser. Metheny is shooting terribly and I don't expect that to change with our offense. We've been better than most of us thought so far but not sure if Ayers can keep this pace.

Thanks for the summary Globe

Got home way later than i should have and only caught the last 10-12 minutes or so. I’ll save my blabber since i didn’t watch it all. I am just weirdly excited about this team.

I will say the elsasser thing is nearing humorous territory. He’s fine but seriously, why does he play so much ?!

lol I've seen that floated on here quite a bit, you really believe that? This isn't 12u travel baseball, his dad didn't buy all the jerseys.

Well we do play the game like a 12u travel squad. Actually I've had some success (it's still effing chaos) getting my 8u team to set screens and dribble around them. It doesn't look at all like basketball, but there are occasions where we do more "team" oriented things than BG does :)

Truthfully, I don't know what to think. We all know he's on the roster because of his dad, although he's no worse than a myriad of other walkons we've had through the years. I don't know why he's always garnered more playing time than most walk-ons did. He's NOT athletic enough to be a D1 player, but he does have heart/hustle, and it's been crazy low volume (in largely inconsequential moments), but he did go 9/12 from 3 last year, and is 1/1 this year. If he can be a not god awful defender and hit some open kickouts, he actually has value on this team.

Does that make me happy? No. I think most MAC rosters have 8-9 guys that they'd rather have on the court at any given time than Elsasser, but I'm not sure that we do. Honestly, outside of Ayers (who we're using as a primary/secondary ball handler) who else do we have in that 6'3-6'6 range that you can park on the wing and expect to hit a reasonable 3P%? Turner is a better player, but Elsasser is probably a better jump shooter. Mills is always just kinda "there" never seems to contribute much, and both of those guys are still getting 20mpg even with Elsasser playing his. I'm not going to go on a crusade to say either of them deserve MORE time.

Elsasser is here because of his dad. Maybe in year's past he's gotten playing time because of who is dad is. But now he's going to get playing time because Huger has recruited almost nothing at his position group. In any games where we actually NEED outside shooting Elsasser is probably the guy I have the most confidence in knocking down an outside shot. Ayers has been fantastic. Matheny has had 1 good game and 2 awful. Nobody else has proven to me they can actually knock down shots.

That's sad, but it's where we're at.
