@ Lake Superior State (12/2-12/3)

Post by mbenecke »

Following an off weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday, our Falcons (6-8-0) head to north again to take on the Lake Superior State Lakers (1-9-2). Friday’s game will begin at 7:07pm, with Saturday’s contest beginning at 6:07pm. Both will be available to stream through FloHockey.

LSSU enters this series following a rough weekend being swept by St. Thomas. I have a feeling this LSSU team is going to be motivated a lot after that result, so we’re going to likely see a highly focused and desperate team, as they haven’t won a game since October.

Against this team a season ago, our Falcons were 2-2-0, sweeping them at home and being swept on the road. In order for us to keep pace at the top of the CCHA, we need to find a way to get a good sum of points this weekend. With how bad this LSSU team has been this year, a sweep is really the preferred result here. It’ll be tough on the road, but we have to go take it. We’re rested and ready, so there is no excuse. Go perform, boys!

Goalie Matchup:

BGSU
Christian Stoever, So. - 2.83 GAA, .918 SV%
Zack Rose, Sr. - 3.25 GAA, .902 SV%

LSSU
Ethan Langenegger, Jr. - 2.59 GAA, .911 SV%
Seth Eisele, Sr. - 4.10 GAA, .884 SV%

Let’s go Falcons!

Defense has had more than a few brain cramps in the first.

Continue that effort into next weekend and we'll give up 5 goals a period.

End of 2, 6-4 BG.

Rose looks rough. Defense is so so. Offense is spurty, but fighting through a lot. Pretty sure LSSU could commit murder on the ice and still stay out of the box.

Lake Superior is terrible, their goals are because we're taking naps on defense. Lose either game and I'd let the club team play the rest of the year. St. Thomas is way better then them.

Northern pulls the goalie and scores the EA goal with less than a minute left, takes a penalty in OT, then scores the shorty to win. Tech gets a point, so we’re back in first.

Ferris is on top of the Mavs by 2 in Mankato after 2. And Rico’s boys score two in the second to go into the third tied with the Beavers. Crazy night in the CCHA.

7-4 win. I wasn’t able to watch, but it sounds like it wasn’t pretty.

Still, I’ll take a win and 3 points on the road every time. Finish it tomorrow night, boys.

Ferris beats the Mavs in Mankato 2-1. We're all alone in first. Footballguy51 just picked up the Ferris upset bonus in the Pick 'Em.

I wanted to recognize some of the senior guys that played really well last night. I’ve called on them to do more on here a lot this season, and they stepped up big time last night.

Schneider - 2 goals, 1 assist
Barber - 1 goal, 1 assist
Burke - 2 assists

We will go as they go, so I’m happy to see them getting things done. Keep going, BG!

Rose seemed to hurt himself making this save. I was glad to see he shook it off and stayed in, but I'm worried he's on borrowed time for the remainder of the season.

Stoever in goal tonight. I'm worried we experience another Ferris Saturday-like game where the Lakers come out playing like a scorned spouse and we don't keep up.

There was more than just that save. There's no doubt in my mind coach told him it was his net last night until he took himself out of the game. It's been said everywhere that last night in the CCHA had a weird feeling. Rose made some great, and obviously painful, lateral saves, but missed the straight on quick reflex ones. I had it in my mind a 4 goal lead in the third would have seen Evola get some much needed mop up time.

Now that LSSU has seen the BG transition game in person, I expect a much closer, and muckier game tonight. Hopefully the game gets called as it happens and not under the "keep it close" rules.

1-0 lead after 1 on Saturday. PP goal by Burke. Much more controlled game than last night.

This LSSU broadcast is pretty annoying and frustrating. Their play by play and color guys are so whiny and biased, it’s hard to listen to.
