2022 Transfer Portal
Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
Still can apply for waiver too
Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
In Loeffler’s presser the other day, he said “BG will return all but 10 guys next year” and I about spit out my drink. I mean, that would be great and all, and 20 years ago you could probably count on that. But no way on God’s green earth is that going to be the case. The part that made me feel bad for him was, he said it like he not only meant it, but that he believed it. We’ll easily double that number by the time it’s all said and done. And that’s not even a direct knock on BG. That’s just the reality of today’s players and game in general. There is one school in the MAC that does a tremendous job with minimal transfers and has excellent players and coaching retention. And it is not BG. And it’s also why that school is always a contender and a tough SOB to beat in this league. Something BG is still trying to become itself.
GO BG!!!

Did he even dress this year? I kind of forgot he was on the team.

I don't even know what position he (didn't) play

Offensive line. He was a transfer in from (I believe) Cincinnati. Didn’t work out here.

Pretty sure he left the team early in the season, sounded like he got beat out for his position. He had tweeted something back in late August or early September. So yeah, I wouldn't necessarily say he's a loss.

Offer in for WR Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim from Alabama A&M. Same school as Odieu Hiliare.

Lot of top talent from MAC programs in the portal...does not bode well for the conference

None from us, though, at least at this point. On the coaches show last night, Loeffler talked about how he had spent the past few days essentially recruiting his own players to stay. Normally, he said, he'd have been recruiting high schoolers.
It's a new world. I don't love it.

I'm sure there will be a few that defect after the bowl game, but it's encouraging that it hasn't been a mass exodus, yet.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 10:05 amNone from us, though, at least at this point. I do think there's going to be a pendulum effect where things start to swing back to normal. Only 30ish percent of people who entered the portal last year found a new home. Eventually people are going to realize that the risk isn't worth it. But for now, I think Loeffler is right to focus on keeping people in the program. I think in our conference, the teams that keep the most people on board will have a serious advantage to those that have a ton of turnover.

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
MAC isn't alone. CUSA, SBC, MW seeing the same thing. A lot of these kids have been told well in advance of this week that bigger programs have their eye on them. Others are taking a shot in the dark because of no playing time, coaching changes, etc. One guy from CUSA received five offers within ten minutes from P5 schools yesterday. There are over 1,200 kids in the portal today. Put that in NFL terms and it's enough players to fill out 22 teams. Most of them are going to wind up being out of D1 college football unfortunately.
The G5 will feed the P5, and FCS will feed the G5. The result is going to be a watering down of the overall product as talent levels across rosters balance out, much like this year. Plus it negatively affects those borderline high school seniors who now might get passed up for a 5th year transfer to fill a roster spot for a season. It's not good for the long-term health of the sport, especially at the lower levels, which is probably what the intention was all along.

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
In a lot of instances...Those boderline HS kids that can't go FCS or JUCO will have to mostly pay their way for a year at D2 or totally at D3 and hope to get noticed enough to get a full ride at the FCS or FBS level. In a sense..that helps the coaches at the next level because it gives them a better sense of a players ceiling and floor...
