Probably a large bruise somewhere near his hip. He fell to the floor IIRC Yeah, that's it. If he wasn't injured we would be rolling!

As much as it pains me to say it, I have little interest in following the program until we get a new coach. There is nothing exciting about BG hoops...nothing. And it is embarrassing.

Agee is the only reason to watch and he can't break into the starting lineup that features a walk on.

He's the only player on our team that consistently plays winning basketball. Defense, rebounds, a bit of offense. But he plays net positive basketball and I don't trust anybody else on this roster to do that on a consistent basis.

With the conference play starting in about 2 weeks. I don't see any improvement since the start of the season. It's going to get ugly the next 2 1/2 months.
Re: Vs Ten Martin
Turner seemed fine moving around the bench today so I assume he'll be back before long.
Most confusing thing I see is the coaching staff consistently yells "move" when we're on offense. It's not like we run plays with off ball movement. Does the coaching staff expect the players to improvise most of the offense because the players don't seem to know that. There's no other context when they yell that just move. Makes no sense

This is last year all over again with even less talent. All these transfers, very few defined roles 10 games in. Some actual media attention will be coming after football gets done. Going to be some rough embarrassing nights coming in January & February for this coaching staff.
Re: Vs Ten Martin
Oh genuinely think they expect Ayers and Curtis to be basketball savants like Luka or LeBron. Control the ball 90% of the time with the awareness to see cuts from their teammates. And the ability to draw more defenders and then get the ball to the people vacated by that.
But this isn't the NBA, these are college kids. They don't just move to open spaces naturally. And none of our lead guards, with the exception of Turner his first/second seasons, have the basketball awareness to play that style efficiently enough. Especially since we also need those guys to be our leading scorers. Even at the NBA level there are only a handful of guys capable of playing winning basketball by leading their teams in both scoring and assisting.
College basketball is riddled with teams running actual offensive sets with designed movement and it works. We don't do that instead expecting these kids to be great on their own.

Ive seen improvement individually but not as a team. I think McCombs is a guy that can play a bit and be in your top 9. I think Lightfoot seemed to be really good last night. But the team as a whole is getting worse. We all see it. We all see how the team could be good. Try to run an offense. Focus on Agee. I think there is enough talent for them to be good and compete. They haven't gelled as a team, their top 2 players are at times black holes. The D has left a ton to be desired.Burnt Orange wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 10:35 pm With the conference play starting in about 2 weeks. I don't see any improvement since the start of the season. Re: Vs Ten Martin
Yesterday was the first time I've seen what Lightfoot can be. He played meaningful minutes as a pure oh and no Ayers/Curtis on the floor. It actually worked. I don't think it would work long term well enough for us to be good, but it was encouraging seeing what he can do.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 9:22 amIve seen improvement individually but not as a team. Unlike our other guys he gave the ball up quickly when it wasn't there. Too often Curtis, especially, will dribble for 15s before making a move. Lightfoot (yesterday at least) would give it up far quicker to reset things.
There is also little doubt that our defense improves with our two leading scorers on the bench. Neither of them are consistently engaged on that end of the floor.
Don't get me wrong, in no way to I blame these kids, nor do I think the team magically gets better long term by sitting out best players. But I do think it's a problem with the way we ask those 2 to play the game. And the defensive efforts are either mental or simply they exhaust too much energy trying to do it all offensively.
Either way. There is talent on this team. But this team is beyond putrid.

First road win on the year for UT Martin...didnt see much of the game, but UTM looked much sharper moving the ball around...we seemed to be a beat late in reacting.

Yeah, it is sad. We just can't seem to attract the right combination of players to play here. Never have really.

Re: Vs Ten Martin
Ayers has to be the best player who plays losing basketball i have ever seen. Every possession where he touches the ball it looks like he is trying to show off his entire bag in order to get scouted. It's either a shot for him (80% + of the time) or an assist from him. There will be no resetting. The offense will live or die in his hands.
He may well be the most gifted individual offensive player we have had since Antonio Daniels. But he has no idea how to play as a team. And does not contribute to winning. So the individual talent is meaningless.
