I do feel like California JUCO is a little different, though. It seems like a you have a lot more kids out there that opt for JUCO because it opens up more opportunity, rather than it being the last remaining opportunity because of boneheadedness. Generally, I don't think the JUCO route is a great way to build a team, but I am always less concerned when I see that it's a California kid from a California JUCO.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:30 am It’s not the talent at question. It’s the baggage most have. We just spent 4 years purging the system of most of the knuckle heads. There are probably 300 DBs in the conventional portal, and a plethora of unsigned HS kids…

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
Assuming we’ll see a good number of BG names hit the portal in the coming week since Rogue has said so. My question, does hitting the portal so late with the later bowl hurt the number of opportunities for players to go? Could it end up benefitting BG that signing day has passed and the number of roster spots at better programs are severely limited?

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
There's been plenty of accounts of tampering from several head coaches across the country. Would not be a shock if some players have had conversations with other programs regarding transferring after the bowl game - and if so I'd imagine those respective programs are holding a spot for them...BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 12:09 pm Assuming we’ll see a good number of BG names hit the portal in the coming week since Rogue has said so. Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
I think “tampering” is out the window these days….. ex teammates, ex recruiters, ex coaches etc now in other locations, who know the player, often do the background work. How do you think Osborne ended up here ? It wasn’t weird luck that Matt’s ex teammate from CA ended up here. Blindly into the portal now or any other time is a dangerous dice roll, likely out of desperation to leave. The ones I was told intend to bolt have irons in the fire.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

If this were a 70's cop show I'd say "Irons in the fire...be careful you don't get burned...jive turkey"

I think that was either Huggy Bear or Tony Barretta.

Yep, 100%. Our "rushing" attack isn't very scary. We averaged 101 yards a game in 2021...and in 2022, 99 yards a game. That is poor, at best. Our O line is still subpar after 4 years and teams know we have to throw.

LB Justin Schiets is in the portal. Believe he was primarily on special teams.

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
Post game Loeffler said everything in the spring will be based on running the ball...so if I'm a WR or QB...why sign/stay? And if you know how to fix the running game in the spring...why haven't you done so already?Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 2:56 pmYep, 100%. Our "rushing" attack isn't very scary. Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
I watched that presser and was thinking exactly the same thing. He was emphasizing the running game over and over to the point of making people think we have no intention of ever throwing it again. I know he didn't mean that, but maybe some prospective players might read into it that way. He should have said we were going to fix the running game so we can have a balance to our offense, instead of being 1 dimensional, which I'm sure is what he wants to do. The best offenses are always the ones that can run and pass equally well and keep a defense off balance.
I guess you can say we did make some progress this year. Up til now, we were a balanced offense - we couldn't throw it or run it and were equally terrible at both. This year we at least had a respectable passing game, but being respectable in 1 aspect is not going to win you championships. He sounded very confident in being able to fix the running game for next year. I'm curious what magic elixir he has that's going to do it.

Re: 2022 Transfer Portal
I took most of what he said with a grain of salt. Why wasn't it fixed this year? His tenure has been marred with poor OL play. Why can't he recruit there and why can't we improve the guys on the roster? I'd love if anyone in the media would actually ask him a tough question.Beaker wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 3:57 pm I watched that presser and was thinking exactly the same thing.
