vs. RPI (12/29-12/30)

Post by TalonsUpPuckDown »

Hey, RPI comes into town tomorrow. They're in 9th in the ECAC standings, 7-9-1 on the season. It's shaping up to be quite the cripple fight. I'll leave it to mbenecke to fill out the matchup details.

Does anyone have an extra Falcon Club pass to the lounge for tomorrow night's game? I have 5 people coming but only 4 passes and I'm hoping to avoid the need to beg Jason to let my 5th in for the coaches talk. PM me if you can help a brother out. Thanks!

Appreciate the shoutout. Lol

I’m not planning to write any type of preview for this team until they prove me wrong. Right now, I’m super low on our ability to do anything of note. If they go on a run in the 2nd half of the season, maybe I’ll think about it. Until then, I’ll keep watching but without much expectation or hope.

That said, these are winnable games and we need them both. So we better get after it, after a long break and a good amount of rest. No reason we shouldn’t win them both.

Something Ty mentioned in his presser: In games against MSU, WMU, Mankato, and OSU, BG is 1-9. The rest of their games they are 7-3 (his numbers). When you look at the rest of the schedule, who's on it? The teams they are 7-3 against.

He also mentioned in talking with Dan Fischer (trainer) that has been on staff for 13 years, this team has missed more man games/days through 20 games than any of the previous 12 teams did in an entire season (34+ games per season). That's significant, and raises questions on its own.

Zack Rose is also likely done for the season.

So maybe we’ll have something if we ever get healthy. I’d be thrilled with that.

It’s just uber frustrating and disappointing watching this team when a lot of the guys are likable and capable. I want to see these guys succeed, because they work so hard and give everything they have to winning for this university. It’s hard to see it not working out. Not gonna bail on them, but man… it’s hard.

Feel so bad for the kid. Misses his last 2 seasons of his collegiate, and likely hockey, career.

Definitely feel bad he’s had to miss so much time.

He does have another year of eligibility, though. And he could potentially have another beyond that, if he’s able to secure a medical redshirt.

How long do you try to put off Cole Moore? I think he has one more season of Juniors before he ages out. It's a tough spot for both goaltenders and the coaches.

Oh yeah, this is not a tightrope walking act that I envy at all. Rose is a strong, capable goalie when healthy. If he wants to be here, it’s hard to tell him no. But you also have to think about long-term ramifications.

Have to imagine one of them (or Evola?) ends up moving on at some point. Too many good players is the best kind of problem to have, but it doesn’t make the decision any easier.

I just say, "Season ticket holder," when my wife and I go in. I've taken guests along in the past without any questions, but entry seems to be more strict now.

Based on history and how the staff likes to have a 2-year overlap on goaltending I'd expect Rose to be portal bound. While I don't know a thing about their plans, I'd be surprised if they made a short term decision at the expense of their longer team plans. This really sucks as Rose is a good player and great kid who represents us well. I really feel for him.

Oh, I did not know he had another year. Hopefully he can fully recover and bounce back and keep playing hockey.

I'm setting the over/under for tonight's attendance at 2105

After two injuries in two years, especially that injury, I'd be less surprised to see him in a Grad Assistant role than the portal.

If we’re guessing butts in seats, definitely under.

BGSU GOAL: Swankler beats the goalie with a nice backhand and BG goes ahead 1-0 about halfway through the first period.
