Guest will have a fit if a Holy Cross QB ends up being picked up. I almost want it to happen now just to see the posts.

LOL I totally forgot about that. Holy Cross was 12-1 in Football this year.
[/quote]

Let's do it. Let's trade football coaches with Holy Cross and give the Con Man what he deserves. Give him time, and he will toilet Holy Cross football like he did at BGSU.

Because that's the same thing as a FCS guy?

Settle down Francis.
Those FCS guys went 12-1 this year including a win at Buffalo...why would they want to take a step down to our level?

I actually had that thought.

Not my intent. I keep hearing we need a new QB so I guess I wrote off Orth but maybe he is the starter.

I want to revisit Sluka. Not because I think he is coming because I think Flipper is right and he isn't coming. But we are at the bottom end of the FBS pool when it comes to teams. Why in the world aren't we making this offense fun? Why are we playing an offense that is so boring and conservative. This year should be the year where Loeffler tries all kinds of new things to run a series with Taron Keith at QB (As senior, threw for 1,643 yards, completed 61 percent of his throws, and achieved a 13:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 170 attempts). I don't care. Just do something.

Maybe they did do that this year and it was a mess and I just didn't watch enough. But the Sluka thing got me thinking. We are all frustrated by the offense...and Loeffler just seems to be unwilling to change and overly conservative.

Nothing in SL's DNA suggests that he is capable of changing course...on anything. He is not going to suddenly acknowledge how his offense has hamstrung the program

I wouldn’t call it conservative. He jammed us many many times going for it on 4th down in bad spots. He runs convoluted trick plays a lot. The offense is simply bad. Beating a dead horse, we beat teams we shouldn’t many times, so the talent was there. even opposing players my son knew and played against from HS commented after a number of games, paraphrasing “ WTF is your offense?!?” . The offensive scheme is one thing that will not change.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

I was thinking about this yesterday…do you think Loeffler really believes he’s doing a good job and that the program is close to a championship?
I wonder deep down if he looks at this past season as him really improving the program or he knows that it was an illusion.

I don't think there is any question that he believes he's improving the program. And overall, I think you could argue he is. The talent is better, the academics are better, the team seems full of great guys, he has a coaching staff with solid experience (though the quality of some could be debated). Unfortunately, his offense is outdated and easily defended unless you have an NFL o-line and Tom Brady at QB. I think another coach could come in tomorrow with this exact roster and win 9 games next year with a different scheme.

Definitely agree with this. "Improvement" is relative.

It it where we want it to be? Hell no. But it's obviously much better than it was 5 years ago.

For sure.

I think we've all seen SL's type dozens of times if you follow football much at all. They learned an Xs & Os system when they were young/impressionable and they had success with it at that time. They get it so ingrained in their psyche that they KNOW the system is never the problem, it's up to the players to execute it better, up to the coaches to teach it better, etc. It's a psychological issue, but they never question the basis for the entire thing.

BG is undoubtedly in better shape now than when SL was hired. The question is whether it's in enough better shape. And the bigger question is whether there is any chance he's the one to take it further. I beleive the answer to both of those is no, but I don't really get a say in the matter.

Are we better...probably. Should we be better than we are now? ...probably. Is SL the guy who's going to build a championship team? I don't think so

Bingo.

The only thing that keeps me from wanting to move on is that I am a bigger basketball fan and would rather move on there first.

Impossible to think that someone like Mike Hart couldnt infuse much more life into the program.

Getting a positions coach from a P5 school is going to be hard moving forward. Mike Hart makes more as RB coach than Loeffler does now. I think FCS or D-2 are where we'll have to look unless someone like Hart just wants to run their own program for the sake of pride.

Hart interviewed at WMU and didn't get the job.
