Would be malpractice going into the season with only three QBs on the roster.
Armstrong to NC ST

Still time to get a QB
I would think the best time to get a QB is Late April early May when guys are transferring who just got beat out.
I still think we may have a QB committed that just hasn't been announced yet. Lawanson tweeted this out on Christmas Day and there hasn't been any word about it since. It's possible he jumped the gun, but it seems like a QB commit announcement to me. https://twitter.com/CoachSLawanson/stat ... tVCQnXxJSg
Could also be a high school guy, right?

Loeffler said they would evaluate and take the best guy, whether he’s a transfer or a high school kid. Whoever we bring in is the 4th scholarship QB, which is plenty of depth for that room.

I’m not writing off the possibility that Orth starts next year and is very solid. We haven’t seen enough of him to label him a bust yet. Maybe he’s solid?
If Loeffler is planning on going into 2023 with four QBs, three of which are underclassmen, would be a massive gamble to say the least. I don't have anything against Orth, just from the practices I've witnessed he has struggled with consistency. He had a decent showing in the bowl game but bear in mind the opponent. Bainbridge has the better arm but zero experience. Then possibly two freshmen? Yikes.

To be fair, I definitely wouldn’t call it the ideal scenario. But isn’t that kinda where we were this year? McDonald as the experienced starter, with Orth the new transfer and Bainbridge the freshman. It wouldn’t shock me, is all.

Orth at the very least had playing time an LIU, yeah it's FCS but it's better than nothing.

I have nothing against Orth or Bainbridge. I think they both have potential. For me, it's more that Loeffler explicitly said that getting a QB or two in the portal was a top priority. If that doesn't happen, it means that he and his staff failed to recruit a priority position to come here, which is an issue in itself.

Yep....

And I disagree that a guy who didn't play much, a rs FR that didn't play at all and a true fr..or two,,,is "plenty of depth" at QB. He needs to find an experienced signal caller to push or Orth or we're in trouble.

Part of building A Program The Right Way is having a succession plan..particularly at QB. we don't have that at the one position Loeffler is supposed to be a coaching genius

He's probably still trying to talk McDonald into playing another year.

I meant depth more in terms of raw numbers, not experience. That’s definitely a concern of mine.

I was more voicing how I believe the staff will think. “4 guys? Good enough!”

I could definitely see them selling that idea...even it though it's nonsense

Anders returns knowing that Lewis is unlikely too. I trust Anders over Lewis.

Don’t forget Orth started at Mississippi State, in addition to Bowl game time. That said, regardless of what we think his (or Bainbridge ) potential may be, if SL don’t want him, that’s it…..and the offense won’t change to suit anyone’s talent, that we can all agree upon. I believe that is the case for both of them. If he doesn’t get “his QB”, you can expect the season of excuses, and further failure.

Speaking of SL, is the lack of extension news keeping transfers away? I would have imagined if an extension was going to get done it would have been announced by now. I've reached out to a few media types in NW Ohio and they haven't heard anything either, which leads me to believe either Loeffler was doing some public negotiating when he said he expects one to get done, or he and the university are far apart as to what that looks like.

I can't imagine BG feels confident with a new AD to commit long-term to someone who has finished all four seasons here with a losing record...

The new AD responded to Anders tweet in a manner that suggests SL will be around a bit. Maybe they plan to announce it on 2nd signing day?

Armon Bethea, OL transfer from Arizona State has committed to BG. This appears to be a very good get, was the 76th rated interior lineman and 5th best prospect out of New York in 2021.
