Speed, speed, speed to beat the trap. Loved coaching against it when I was with the clubbers as we had some guys who could fly and make defenders look silly in the neutral zone. BG will need to play a patient game and stick with it this weekend. Can't afford to get frustrated and then take stupid penalties.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 11:44 am CHN Tale of the Tape for this weekend:Normally I'd say these offensive numbers look good for us, but our 15 goals in the last 3 games came against lousy teams. Beavers don't take a lot of penalties which reduces PP opportunities. Their offensive numbers aren't in the same league as ours, but our swiss cheese defense/goals against will provide ample opportunities. Anyone here think our coaching staff can figure out how to beat the trap?Code: Select all

Need to take advantage of the last change and get the Swankler line out when Rosen and Zmolek are on the bench.

Bemidji scores off a bad angle shot.

Good effort. Bemidji has a right to be sour about that first goal. Was definitely a high stick. I dunno how the officials missed that.

Swankler picked up another point, he's now in second place nationally in scoring.
Interestingly, 8 of the top 10 are underclassmen. Is the one (or two)-and-done route getting more popular for guys trying to get to the nhl? I don't ever remember that many underclassmen leading scoring.

Quinn Emersons short handed goal was a thing of beauty. Though looked at in review for a period of time, but it was upheld.

Emerson works hard every shift. That fourth line works hard every shift. The fact that fourth liners are regulars on the PK speaks volumes.unfalconbelievable wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 10:43 pm Quinn Emersons short handed goal was a thing of beauty. Everyone in my immediate vicinity thought Emerson’s goal would be overturned. pdt, we finally caught a break from the refs…

Great third period! I will say our puck handling and passing was downright terrible the first 50 minutes of that game. We just were not playing crisp offense and blew so many good PP opportunities. That last 10 was beautiful though, they got the tempo up and took it to them.
Our defense needs work though, weakest blue line in awhile

Without a doubt. In a game without review available, that gets waived off 99% of the time. I'm wondering if Sholl was blocking the view of the camera in the corner? That angle should have been conclusive, but it is a shoulder mounted camera, so who knows.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 10:52 pm

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the intensity with which this team played last night. Frankly, I've been waiting to see 60 minutes of intensity for a long time. I finally saw it last night. Not saying they didn't make mistakes but BG played with a super high motor and I didn't see anyone take a shift off.
I'm also seeing what appears to be a changing of guard mid-season. You can clearly see this team is being led by the effort of the Freshman and Sophomore classes. How Quinn's shorty didn't make the ESPN Top 10 is a mystery to me.
I'm not smart enough about hockey to understand the defensive changes that took place in late December that Stav mentioned at Chalk Talk but something positive is definitely happening on this team.
A sweep tonight would be huge. Go BG!

Had a playoff feel. Beavers have had BG's number the past few years. I'd hope our guys are able to get up for an important home series. I was impressed with Barber's game last night. Was coming back defensively and some decent looks at the net.notkithughes wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 2:00 pm I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the intensity with which this team played last night. The club has underachieved all year and perhaps this is a flipping of the script where a slow start turns into a strong finish. The absolute goal now is securing the #1 seed for the playoffs and getting home ice.

6:45 and the teams haven't even came out for warm-ups. Anybody know what's up?
