vs. Bemidji State (1/13-1/14)
Re: vs. Bemidji State (1/13-1/14)
Apparently, they had trouble setting the net at the North end, and delayed the start of the game until 7:50ish

Re: vs. Bemidji State (1/13-1/14)
There was an issue with the ice tonight involving one of net pegs in the north end. They had to install a different peg and both coaches agreed to do the 3rd period switch. I don't think it ever happened though.unfalconbelievable wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:36 pmCan someone explain the 3rd period goalies switching ends. Very odd.
Up 2-1 18:07 left in the 3rd
Massive sweep this weekend. Played very good hockey. Team seems to be hitting their stride.

Started looking tired about halfway through the 2nd, but overall a great effort all weekend.

With the sweep we effectively eliminate two of Bemidji’s four games in hand. And with Tech losing to the Tommies we effectively eliminate one of theirs as well. Mankato is another story. But we are in as good a place as we could have possibly hoped for at this point. Hard to believe next weekend in St. Paul will be big for us. Lose to Rico and we let Tech back in it.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:21 pm CCHA standings (while understanding that games in hand is a very real thing and also that we control a large amount of our own destiny):

Bergeron gave up 14 goals this weekend to Denver and scored zero. What a shitshow down in Oxford.

That Denver team is loaded...surprised Carter Mazur only got one of the 14.

I thought those scores on CHN.com were mistakes...Miami lost 7-0 BOTH nights. What has happened to the RedHawks?TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:27 pm Bergeron gave up 14 goals this weekend to Denver and scored zero. What a shitshow down in Oxford.
And great to see BG coming together...6 straight wins.

BG controls their own destiny for 2nd place. Bemidji has 4 games in hand, which is 12 points. Mankato has 2 games, which is 6 points. Both of those teams control their own destiny for 1st place. They still have a series against each other, which means one will take points from the other. They split that series, BG controls their own destiny for 1st. Bottom line, win the games you play and you're in a very good position at the end of the season. LSSU can still finish with 40 points (not likely) so nothing is locked up in any way shape or form.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:19 pmWith the sweep we effectively eliminate two of Bemidji’s four games in hand. Re: vs. Bemidji State (1/13-1/14)
My thoughts on the current turnaround of this team:
We have 4 transfers into the program this season playing their last year of college hockey. This is more than we've had transfer in at one time than I've seen before. (We've had one in each of the prior 2 seasons.) All of them came from different programs with different playing styles and different expectations. A quick glance at the roster shows the following:
Zach Vinnell - Sr. from Merrimack
Hunter Lellig - Sr. from Minnesota-Duluth
Nathan Burke - Sr. from Minnesota
Chase Gresock - Sr. from Miami
All 4 are playing key roles this year for the Falcons and have been great additions BUT they have no prior history with the program. How much of an effect did they have early on with the chemistry of the team? How long did it take them to be accepted by the other players since they came in as upper classmen? How long did it take them to adapt their game to the expectations of the coaching staff? My answer to all of the questions - about half of the season.
There is very little practice time prior to the start of the season due to the length of the season. The most that they can have are a few captain's practices until about a week before the first game. That's not a lot of time to develop much camaraderie for these new "short timer" players prior to the start of the season let alone on-ice chemistry. I think that we're there, now, and the remainder of the season could be a helluva ride.
