Found out this morning that Bazelak & Menard will both have two years of eligibility left.

Assuming Bazelak will be a two year starter, I have to imagine Orth will be in the portal come spring.

What does this spell for Bainbridge? Does he stick it out here, or join the likes of Keller and Melton who came in as highly touted recruits and never saw the field.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

bainbridge stayed because he has no film, and riding out the Loeffler tenure… regardless of what his talent or ceiling is, not likely playing with this staff in place.

Probably a silly question given today's environment, but Bainbridge will be a RS-F next season. Say Bazelak has two seasons as an injury-free starter (pretty rare!), Bainbridge would theoretically be the #2 and in line to start for two seasons after that. Is two years starting not enough to stay? Would the assumption be that Anderson will jump ahead of him and be the #2 this season?

It’s up to the kid, certainly; and how he is treated while he is here. That’s a tough road grinding through with no shot at playing for years. I don’t think he plays under this staff. ( opinion NOT based on my perception of his skill).

At the very least he stays and gets a free education out of it. Not a bad gig honestly if pro football was never really something he was aspiring for.

Just a little clarification Flip. Tucker Melton did see the field and not just looking at it. However, fans who saw him play probably wished he hadn't. Two games 2 for 10 passing 23 yards plus an interception for a 19.3 QB rtg. He was the starter at West Alabama this year and was acceptable there for a team with a losing record.

He was even worse in practice the times I saw him. Physical gifts but he seemed to struggle when it came to reading defenses and being consistently accurate. Easy to lay blame at the feet of the coaches, but the reality is sometimes that no matter how good a kid may appear in high school things don't carry over well to the college game. That's the crapshoot of recruiting sometimes. Even in the NFL, top five picks routinely don't pan out.

I doubt Orth expected to start when he transferred here. I could see him beating out Menard for the primary backup role. Then it's all happenstance for what happens in the season with injuries and play.

And Keller (who I thought was going to be a starter here) is buried in the depth chart at Tiffin. About fourth string last year from what I could tell and didn't see the field.

Why on earth would anyone transfer here (or anywhere) with no belief or assurance that they could win the job, if not immediately, then the following season? I’m sure he was sold the “we will develop you” story and you will have an equal shot at starting.

Which at some point has to make one question the talent assessment and development ability of the self proclaimed QB guru. Upon arrival 4 years ago I believed in short order we would have a stable of talented QB’s, where if one went down, the other would step in not missing a beat. Nothing close to that ever came to be.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

I'm with Rogue here. He definitely came in with the sell "you'll be the backup this season and have a shot at starting next season." When they bring in someone like Bazelak, that starting shot pretty much goes out the window barring injury, which is not ideal.
