Emoni Bates....
Re: Emoni Bates....
If EMU had a significant big man they would be a force to reckon with this year and with a little luck Stan Heath would get back to the floor and dance.

Re: Emoni Bates....
Still a pretty good chance they would kick our ass, though. I guess we’ll find out in January.

Re: Emoni Bates....
Bates scored 29 straight points for EMU on his way to 43 against TSUN...they still lost 84-79
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Emoni Bates....
He's on a different level. I think he could go to the NBA after this season, but if he sticks around one more season and they get an impact transfer or two, look out.

Re: Emoni Bates....
He scored some of those points on dunks and layups...an over-reliance on the jump shot has been a focal point of his critics. He has some limitations physically...but I have zero doubt he'll play in the NBA, even if it's just as a rotational player. That jump shot is money

Re: Emoni Bates....
He’s a NBA level scorer but, he doesn’t defend, pass or dribble well enough to be an impact guy. Not to mention major red flags being coachable, his off the court issue preseason and a dad that causes a lot of issues. I could see him declaring for the draft and possibly going undrafted or being a later 2nd round guy
Re: Emoni Bates....
He's long and athletic and has NBA range on his jumper. If he works his way to being 40% or thereabouts from the NBA line he'll always have a spot in a rotation.
With his length if he's merely engaged on defense he'll be fine.
The dad thing is weird but from reading some of the articles, I think his coachability concerns are largely overblown.
I hope so for his sake. Kid is talented, I want to see him do well.

Re: Emoni Bates....
He needs to develop a little bit more within the offense. Let’s not forget how bad he was in Memphis last year.

He's declared for the NBA draft...I've generally seen him mocked towards the end of the 2nd round.

He'll need to spend a good amount of time in the G-League.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

...is a cav! Exactly as I drew it up.
Re: Emoni Bates....
I don’t think he’ll end up doing much in the NBA. He’s got a lot of flaws to his game. I’ve heard way too much about his lack of coachabliity and work ethic to think he’s going to change much.
All that being said. It’s a low risk flyer on a guy with size who can shoot.
If he isn’t committed you just send him to the G League or release him.
My guess is he’ll be in Europe shortly

He looks like a T Rex with that big head and short arms

I’ll take a guy with his potential at 49. Who knows if it works out, but worth taking a chance at the end of the draft.
