Does not count against his redshirt, if he decides to use it.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 6:12 pm Fyten cracks the lineup for the first time this season.
There's two reasons to schedule this team. First is the opportunity to show the kids the campus. Unfortunately, they are all committed to other NCAA schools at this time, but you never know with the transfer portal. The second is to try new things. You can try all sorts of things in practice, but those you are practicing against know exactly what you're doing. This gives the opportunity to see how those things will work in a game situation. I seriously don't expect this to be a win. But it can still be a successful practice.

Re: USNTDP
Do we want these kids? They're all convinced they're going to be NHL stars and want to get there as soon as possible. I think the kids who are expected to stick around for 3+ years are much better team players, not just here but around the country. Don't forget, Lucia, when he was still coach at Minnesota, made a big hullabaloo out of 24 year-olds beating up on his 18 year-olds and how it wasn't fair.
Re: USNTDP
Game ends in a 3-6 loss. Eigner played the last 15 minutes, allowing 2 goals. Overall, not a bad effort. The score is what it is. Considering goalie 3 and 4 played the game, it is what it is. Evola played a solid game.
The more players BG is able to get in the NHL, the better the recruiting overall will be. That said, getting players from this team will be a monumental task. About the only way will be kids the coaches have a relationship with before they enter the program.Critical Thinker wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 9:01 pm Do we want these kids? Lellig, Barber, Burke, Dougherty, and Stoever were all scratched tonight. I would assume they are healthy and just resting up for a return to CCHA play next weekend.
Big series with Ferris State coming to town.

If you’re going to sit some of your best players then you don’t have much chance against that squad. I can’t say I’d want to play key guys in an exhibition before a key stretch before the playoffs either. It is what it is.
I’d want this game early in the year, if scheduling doesn’t work in the first half, I’d just take the bye weekend.

Agree on all of this. But also kinda wish they had taken a bye weekend earlier in the year instead of scheduling the Adrian exhibition that didn’t end up happening, because we’re about to have another break in 3 weeks, just before the final series of the year.TommyG wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 10:40 pm If you’re going to sit some of your best players then you don’t have much chance against that squad. Then again, I also wouldn’t have started the year with an important CCHA series, but what do I know?
Open that first weekend with an exhibition. Have the RPI series in October. Have the other exhibition as the first thing after Christmas break. Move the opening NMU series to January sometime. I feel like we could’ve avoided this, but it also isn’t a big deal. Hope the boys are ready for the stretch run.

Re: USNTDP
In a perfect world, all of that would have happened. The imperfect world we exist in means each team's schedule has to work with the other 59 hockey schools schedule, as well as arena schedules, NCAA limitations, etc.mbenecke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 6:18 am Agree on all of this. I will be shocked if Adrian isn't the opening game next season. That game was allowed to happen well after the schedule was released, so they did what they could to get it in this season.
Last night's game was because there's two bye weeks in the second half. They still would have practiced yesterday. There were guys that played a lot of minutes they normally wouldn't have. That's a good chunk of film to show them why they are going to be scratched most games now.
