vs. WMU 2/1/23

Post by BillyLP »

The Broncos come to town tomorrow night. On paper, this should be an easy win for the Falcons, but WMU beat up on Buffalo, who gave BG all they can handle, so you never know.

Every game the rest of the way is pretty important for BG. They are currently on Bracketology's Next Four Out, with Ball State being the projected automatic qualifier. If BG can win out the rest of the way and win a couple of rounds in the tournament, they have a real chance at an at-large bid. They are currently ranked #57 in the NET rankings, they highest in the MAC by 12 positions.

This begs the question - why is Ball State projected as the auto qualifier if we are thought of as better? I know they beat us 1st game of the MAC season, but still...

Not sure. BG has been the projected AQ for the last few weeks. The only thing I can think of is that Ball State has been blowing people out the last couple of weeks and BG has had a couple of close games.

They usually use the regular season conference leader to fill any AQ spots for typical one-bid conferences.

Right, which is currently BG. It's tied in conference record and they typically use overall record as default tie-breaker, which BG has in their favor.

Same conference record but BSU has the head-to-head so technically they're in "first".

Really nice comeback in the second. WMU is playing really physical and it’s throwing BG off. There were a decent number of fouls called in that second quarter and I still felt like they missed a ton. Plenty of space in the mid-range so I hope they spread out the defense a little more in second half.
