vs. NIU
Re: vs. NIU
Does anyone know where lightfoot has been? He’s hasn’t been on the bench the past couple games

Re: vs. NIU
The narratives for football and basketball are depressingly similar....poor coaching, lack of focus and direction
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: vs. NIU
Ayers and Agee sitting in crunch time for any combination of Mills, Curtis, and O'Neal is the perfect summation of this coaching staff. A head coach who has no idea who is best players are, and a group of assistants unwilling to tell him to put his best players back in. It is no surprise Huger assistants don't move on to better jobs.
If you take a look at the Jim Larranaga coaching tree its a bunch of broken limbs. I think it's clear Larranaga is the key to his success and his assistants are not good head coaches.

Re: vs. NIU
This team has average talent with no clear guidance. They will win a few more games but this program has shown no significant improvement in the last eight years

I heard he wasn't attending class and is no longer at the university. I could be wrong and probably am, but that is what is was told.

Re: vs. NIU
How many years does Huger have left on his contract? The covid year has many fans confused on the extension. 2 or 3 years?
Re: vs. NIU
I know this year is a lost cause but at this point we have to start out best 5 players Agee, towns, Ayers, Metheny, and Curtis. This allows Turner who has been playing better to replace Ayers, towns, and Agee as sixth man then mills can be our top guard off the bench. Oneal and elsasser fill in as needed which is all assuming we don't have Lightfoot.
Huger has 2 years left after this year. I have no idea how it would work but I wouldn't mind letting Watkins finish the year off as head coach. I don't want him long term but he has a good mix of connecting with the players, helping with the defense, and actually having some fire. I like what I've seen from him while noon is just eh to me. If we take care of business at home vs eastern and Central we should be going to Cleveland so might as well give somebody else a chance

Also if Lightfoot is gone that's the 4th player in 2 years we lost outside of graduation and transfers.
Re: vs. NIU
Huger just needs a little more time to get his system fully implemented…this is all part of his blueprint to a MAC Tournament Championship in 2033.
Re: vs. NIU
Who else? I can only think of Joe Reece (and his entertaining dad - what a trip!) off the top of my head. Totally blanking right now.

Re: vs. NIU
I have been going to BGSU games since 1976. Larranaga may have had a better win% than Weinart, but was not a better coach. Since 2001, we've had 1 good year - made the NIT because couldn't close the deal in the tourney. Maybe 3 hopeful years: 1 with Jans. 2 before Huger ruined Turner.
That is it in this century.
It's not the last 8 years. It's since Larranaga commented for the 3rd season in a row in the 90's "I don't know why we can't win on the road".
It has seriously been that long. Minimum 30 years.

Re: vs. NIU
I disagree with Curtis being one of our 5 best. EH cannot finish at the rim to save his life. HE can get there any time he wants against any team. But he is not a threat because he will NOT hit that layup.fanatic13 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 1:04 pm I know this year is a lost cause but at this point we have to start out best 5 players Agee, towns, Ayers, Metheny, and Curtis. I'd much rather have Turner in the game than Curtis.

Re: vs. NIU
Gordon and Fulcher. Fulcher had a lot of academic issues although it was never officially announced. I can't remember how many but I believed he missed a few games for that reason over his 2 years
