March 4 is crazy early, right? Like compared to normal years, where it's normally in early to mid April?
Very early!!

Has Loeffler been extended yet?

Saw Candle signed his extension
Nothing public on Loeffler, at this point. Very fascinating.

He’s been out fundraising with DVDM, and it’s clear they have a good relationship. So I wonder what is holding up the deal.
I don’t see the benefit of an extension at this point. Seems like just pissing money away we don’t have.

I think the way to do it would be a two-year extension with a 50% remaining contract buyout.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

The "benefit" would simply be that it allows them to still recruit this year. Otherwise, it'll set the program back further on the field. Biting the bullet and committing to more buyout money is just kinda how it works in the industry. Despite how stupid it is, everyone does it. And if we try to zig when everyone else zags, we're going to be an even less attractive job because it'll look like we aren't committed to winning at BG.

It's just the reality of coaching contracts now. Nobody coaches on the final year of their deal. It's administrative malpractice to allow that to happen.

Administrative malpractice would define the Moosbrugger & Hughes leadership from 2017 thru 2021. And for the record Hughes was heavily involved in the hiring of Mike Jinks also. It's documented. The sooner BGSU rids itself of anything those two touched the better. If it's zig or zag, it doesn't matter.

Orr & Dakich both coached out their final contract year here. Basketball, and yeah it sucked, but it happened here twice already.

At this point Loeffler doesn't recruit worth s**t anyhow, so why do we care? Clearly too cheap to fire him and get a new coach in here, so you should probably be too cheap to enter into more guaranteed money.

Dude is a garbage coach. If we cannot afford to fire him, we sure as hell can't afford to give him more years/money. I don't really care about whether or not he can recruit. His recruitng sucks WITH his contract. I also don't care about "how everyone else does it" because everybody else would have shitcanned the garbage coach already. We cannot afford to operate "like everybody else." We've made that clear for a long time. And I assure you there is absolutely nothing that can make this job less attractive. We already are one of the lowest paying gigs in FBS football. More specifically we're the lowest paying gig in probably the bottom conference in FBS football. This job can't go much lower on the spectrum. Hell 23 years ago Urban Meyer didn't think he should leave ND WR coach for this job, and I assure you this job is in a lower spot on the totem pole now than it was back then.

You wanna give him a non guaranteed year? Like win X games it triggers another season, cool. Give him a year but lower the buyouts? Meh. Either way the most important thing for this program (FAR more important than worrying about recruiting) is making it financially viable to find a real football coach next year. Trust me, I'm a hoops fan and I've seen both sides of this here at BG. Letting Orr & Dakich coach out their contracts was far less debilitating than giving Huger extensions and financially tying us to his ass for year after year.

SL is talking about adding 10-18 players between now and Memorial day? WTF...we just signed a bunch of recruits and transfers...where is the room for 10-18 more? Is he referring to the guys h already signed or entirely new people?

He was on twitter essentially begging recruits who have been overlooked to send in film....HMU if no one else wants you? WTF kind of approach is that to take? I am so sick of this goob...he has no clue

Malpractice… please. It’s paying just to pay.

Can’t hold onto anyone they recruit anyway if they’re worth a damn.

I dont think the extension is as necessary as it used to be with the transfer portal.

I think that Loeffler is a better coach then Huger but still doesn't have it. It honestly just seems like a bunch of guys cashing checks. We should go all in on Women's basketball and Hockey.

I like that he is reaching out to people on twitter. I want a coach that tries to find players everywhere. Thats how a team with our resources is going to win.

In theory...we employ enough assistant coaches that we're able to...like the rest of our MAC brethren...locate and entice players to agree to attend BGSU. Putting out a cattle call on Twitter for unrecruited players suggests that there's a glitch in that process. That we've consistently ranked near the bottom of the MAC in recruiting rankings the past few years. adds to that perception

How about cultivating the purported relationships he had with HS head coaches within the 4 hour radius?? There are diamonds out there and they are batting maybe .200 in the portal.

We have an OL from Perrysburg who had zero offers until we signed him. His brother graduates this year...also plays OL and was rated ***. He signed with Toledo

He probably just doesn’t get along with his brother.

No chance the BG brother and his family have seen the program up close for a couple years and aren’t impressed.

That says ALL that anyone needs to know. What Family wants to split every weekend, in the same conference?
